November 29, 2019
Unitarian Universalist Church  of Bloomington, Indiana
Sunday, December 1, 2019
9:15 am and 11:15 am
Full of Promise
Reverend Mary Ann Macklin
As we welcome her back from sabbatical leave, Reverend Macklin will reflect upon our beautiful planet, the promises we make to one another, Advent, and World AIDS Day. Or at least some of those. Our Green Sanctuary Task Force on Global Climate Change will be offering a Social Justice Moment.
Last Sunday for the Giving Tree
We still have quite a few gift requests adorning our tree and would LOVE to see them all be signed out this Sunday, December 1. Please visit Jamie Kirkley in Fellowship Hall during coffee hour or immediately after 2nd service to claim a request in support of a local family, child, or teen in need, or a local adult living with HIV. Gift requests are available for $5 and up and include some tags where gently used donations would be welcome. Gifts will be collected during our Procession of Giving services on Sunday, December 8. You can also sign up online at: .

At Church this Sunday:
Hat Sale on December 1
Hats and Hunger! That's What It's All About!
The Hunger Task Force will continue selling hats between services on December 1 and December 8. Buying and wearing one of our hats is like wearing a badge that says that you fight hunger in our community. 100% of all sales goes directly to running the College Square Pantry (previously Walnut Grove Pantry) and each hat that you buy represents 167 pounds of food that will feed the hungry.  So, keep your head and your heart warm this month -- buy a hat!
Book Give Away for Families and Teachers
Religious Education is giving copies of Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness by Anastasia Higginbotham to families and teachers.  Please visit the table in Fellowship Hall during Coffee Hour to claim your copy!
Humanist Forum Meets December 1 at 12:45 pm
The UU Humanist Forum will meet this Sunday at 12:45 pm in Room 208. Ann Watzel will lead a discussion on "Taxing Wealth."
UU Singles Fellowship Group -- Sunday Singles Lunch
We meet in the Commons after the second service every Sunday to gather and decide where to go out to lunch. Please join us!
Reverend Mary Ann Macklin Returns to the Pulpit Sunday,
following her Sabbatical
As we anticipate Reverend Macklin's return, may we do so with the awareness that she will need to ease back into her ministerial role during the month of December. Reverend Macklin reminds us that one does not "hit the ground running" from sabbatical. Rather, we're all invited to take a deep breath to allow for a time of integration and gentle reentry.
Let's welcome her gladly and gently--ever thankful for her presence among us after some time away.

Recent Phishing Scam by Someone
Impersonating  Reverend Macklin
Once again the nefarious phishing scammers are at work disrupting our day. Someone recently sent a fraudulent email to a number of our members, pretending to be Reverend Macklin. We remind everyone to always check the actual email address on emails from staff members at the church to be sure it is an  * address. Other addresses are bogus and those emails should be immediately deleted.
Here is advice from the Indiana Attorney General about how to protect yourself from this criminal activity. The Indiana Attorney General seems not to have any way of preventing this from continuing to happen.
The Bazaar is next Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7
* Volunteer Opportunities are still available! *
The Bazaar needs your help! The annual Bazaar provides a significant portion of the church's operating budget, and we cannot do it without you! Simply sign up for a short (1 - 2 hour) volunteer shift throughout the first week in December. There are jobs to suit anyone's interests and it is a whole bunch of fun!

LAST WEEK for Holiday Food Basket Donations
A reminder that there is just one week left to support a family in need with a Holiday Food Basket through Monroe County United Ministries. The sign-up sheet, along with a grocery list and instructions, is in the Commons.
Please deliver items directly to MCUM by Friday, December 6. Thank you!
Drop-in Childcare on Wednesdays, 6-8 pm
We are now offering free drop-in childcare on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Room 108.  Parents must remain on site --on the building grounds or in the building. Please use the Courtyard Entrance. We hope to provide a moment for parents to breathe deeply, have a cup of tea with a friend, or sit in silence before running children to the next event. The Meeting Room will be available for quiet meditation.
