From the May Faire Committee

May Faire will be Saturday, May 3rd from 11-3 pm. Bring your family and friends for a fun day of music, dancing, delicious food, games and prizes! Children must arrive by 10:30 a.m. dressed in festive white and light colored attire, and adults are encouraged to dress accordingly as well.

We always need a lot of help to make this a fun and successful event. The volunteer sign-up sheet is ready to fill in. Click the button below to view it. There are multiple tabs on the sheet, so make sure to visit your child's class page sa well. Each class has a booth. Check with your parent rep to see what supplies are needed. Each class is responsible for bringing tables and canopy. We will need extra canopies as well as a few other items for the additional booths. Please fill in slots to help out at the food, Bake Sale and flower crown booths too.

Do you know someone that wants to be a vendor for this year's May Faire? You can pass on this application form: Vendor Application

Cans & Bottles Drive

The 8th grade class would like to thank everybody who has donated cans and bottles to their class throughout the year. For the next few weeks Bottle Drop will add an extra 20% to all bags turned in, so this is a great time to bring in those cans and bottles you have been meaning to drop off!

Some 8th Graders spent part of their Saturday last weekend gathering cans and bottles from a Medford neighborhood. They ended up getting 56 bags of cans and $46 in donation!

From the Library

Please remember to return any overdue library books! Check your inboxes for emails from me and email me if you have any questions. I can provide ISBN numbers for lost books. Used replacements in good condition will be accepted. All library books need to be returned to the library by May 31st.

Farm-to-School Committee Update

Join us tomorrow on campus from 10-2 pm for a special garden stewardship day. Lunch provided from Kona Bento! Unfortunately, we were not able to secure childcare, so if you plan to bring kids please plan to supervise :) Of course, they can help in the garden where appropriate as well… Projects include planting flowers, weeding, pruning and raised bed maintenance. Hope to see you y’all there!

Flower & Vegetable Starts for Sale!

The farm-to-school committee will be sharing plant starts at May Faire! We have a wide variety of flowers, herbs and vegetables to share with you! We will also be offering a “Paint a Pot” activity, just in time for Mother’s Day. Stop by our booth with the kiddos to paint some pots and pick up starts for your spring garden!

Insight into Waldorf Education

Guiding Young Minds: A developmental picture of the Waldorf approach to freedom in thinking

By Gesine Abraham

"Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings, who are able of themselves, to impart purpose and direction to their life." Rudolf Steiner

We generally think of freedom as freedom to think for oneself, to summon initiative, and to make decisions independently. One of the ways that Waldorf education approaches this desirable outcome is by examining the connection between freedom and teaching mobile concepts, or by characterizing rather than defining, which are foundational principles in the elementary school years.

Lost & Found

Lost & Found has an abundance of items. Everything will go Friday, May 2

State Testing

The window for taking our state-wide assessment, the SBAC, is now open. Students in 3rd-8th grade are tested annually in Language Arts and Math, and 5th and 8th graders are tested in Science as well. As per Oregon law, parents and guardians have the right to opt their children out of this assessment. In order to do this, you will need to meet in person with our School Test Coordinator, Ms. Cori, to sign the opt-out form. Please email her to set-up a time to meet if you wish to opt your child out of state testing, cori.royer@madronetrail.org. As a reminder, 3rd, 5th, and 8th graders do not have to take the Spring I-ready assessment so they can focus all of their attention on the SBAC.
