From the Interim Director

Greetings Madrone Trail Families,

I hope you are all staying warm and dry this wintery season. Congratulations this week to Mrs. Richardson and the 8th grade students on their wonderful production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I also hope the middle school students who attended the dance enjoyed themselves; a big thank you to the parents and staff who volunteered to host the event. If you haven’t purchased your dinner & auction tickets yet, I hear they are selling fast. I also heard there is some top shelf entertainment lined up for the evening, and it’s not to be missed. Finally, thank you for choosing Madrone Trail Public Charter as your school, we are fortunate to have you and your students as a part of the community.

As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, or would just like to say hello, please call or stop by any time.

With gratitude,

Andy Bracco

From the Board

Greetings Madrone Trail Community!

At our regular board meeting last week, we discussed our ongoing effort to network in the community and build better relationships and partnerships. With an Interim Director in place (who is doing a fantastic job, by the way!), we are turning our focus to a more exhaustive and thorough search for the permanent Director position. We have commenced our first round of interviews, and since we have 7 applicants at the moment, it will take the rest of February to get through them all. In March, we hope to bring some finalists on campus for in-person meetings and interviews.

We also discussed the results of our 8th Grade Exit interviews. This is an annual tradition where we reach out to last year’s 8th grade parents, and find out what they thought of their Madrone Trail experience, and how the transition to high school has been. It’s always enlightening, and usually enjoyable as well, and we can share a lot of positive feedback of what we’re doing at Madrone Trail.

We have begun work on next year’s budget, and the board allocated some reserves to retain a grant writer to help us pursue additional funding opportunities. First up on our list will likely be supporting the new playground vision, which is being led by Mr. Joe (thank you!) If anyone would like to help with the effort, please contact Mr. Joe. Thanks everyone for your patience and support!

For the good of the school,

The Madrone Trail Board of Directors

Madrone Athletics Fundraiser

Pie order forms have gone with 6th and 7th graders that have participated in clubs or sports here at Madrone as well as the entire 8th grade class. This is our largest fundraiser of the year to support our athletics program. We are selling pies from the Willamette Pie Company. Their fundraising program has helped hundreds of organizations. In fact, my high school Girls’ Basketball program has raised over seven thousand dollars the last 2 years using this program.

Order forms are due back at school February 20th. Pies will be delivered March 8th and will be stored in the school freezer if anyone can’t get their pies that day. However, the goal would be for people to pick up their orders on the 8th. If any student wants to help sell pies from a different grade level; simply email me their name and grade level.

Track and Field

Participation forms have gone home with interested 6th-8th graders. Please register by February 28th. This is our biggest sports team of the year and a great time to try a school sport with something for everyone. Running and jumping and throwing, oh my!

Practice starts March 4th

Please explain to your student that school sports are a big commitment. Practices and meets are daily after school. (Nothing on the weekends)

Mayor’s Cup Fun Run

The Pear Blossom (Southern Oregon’s largest community running event) is April 13th. Part of that day, there is something called a Mayor’s Cup Fun Run. This is a 1-mile or 2-mile run that involves tracking each school’s participation for schools to possibly win various prizes. Attached is the flyer for this event. Also, here is a registration link.

Bottle Drop Fundraiser

Congratulations to the 8th Grade class!! Thanks to all your generous donations and support, the 8th Grade Class has met their humble $600 fundraiser goal.  Great job everyone!

The 8th graders are still collecting bottles and cans to continue to raise funds for their 8th grade trip.

Our continued gratitude to parent and staff member, Sarah Bevers, for her continued dedication to the coordination of collecting and dropping off donations at the BottleDrop center. Thank you, Sarah!

We appreciate your donations and continued support to help them exceed their goal by dropping off donations in sealed/tied bags in plastic trash bags (please no paper or open bags). These will be placed in our special blue BottleDrop bags and taken to the center for redemption with our special coded tag to be donated into our school account.

Parents may drop off sealed bags to the area between the dumpster and the greenhouse, at the end of the bamboo fence on the edge of the parking lot between the Kinder Yard and 7th-8th grade modular.  *There is a sign posted at the drop off location.*

If you have a personal BottleDrop account, and would like to donate directly from your account, login into your online BottleDrop account and search for Madrone Trail.

Breakfast and Lunch (NOT SNACKS) Now Free for All K-8 Students!

Because our community meets a minimum threshold of families participating in SNAP and Medicaid, all breakfast and lunch meals are FREE for all students K-8 starting January 1 (retroactively). Yes, you read that right! ALL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH MEALS ARE NOW FREE TO EVERY STUDENT K-8. We will no longer have to process lunch applications and we do not have to track which meals are served to which students, only count the meals each day. This is a game changer, obviously for our parents and kids who do not qualify for free meals already, but it also eases the administrative burden on the lunch program.

Since the program started retroactively on January 1, families who paid for breakfast or lunch must be reimbursed. We have already credited everyone’s account to whom this applies. If you have a significant positive balance on your account, you can request a reimbursement by completing this form. Snacks are not free, so if you would like your student to continue receiving snacks please be sure to indicate on the form how much $ you would like to leave on the account. Be sure to check your balance on EZ app before requesting a reimbursement.

Please Note

Since students participating in the SPROUTS program are not technically district students, this does not apply to pre-K students. Pre-K students may still receive meals but at the established paid price-- funds will need to remain on your account

Our Pre-Order Policy Remains in Place

Pre-orders are required for breakfast burritos and our daily lunch specials; our other breakfast options and daily soups do not require a pre-order. Pre-orders are accepted until 10 pm the day prior to service. If we do not have a pre-order for your student, they are welcome to choose from our other delicious options. Click here for instructions to register for your EZ app meals account
