From the Interim Director

Greetings Madrone Trail Families,

While the circumstances that bring us together are tragic, I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a magical place to offer support. This past week has been full of introductions, music, smiles, and even some eurythmy at a recent faculty meeting. I’ve met many wonderful people, in particular our students, and have truly enjoyed learning so much about Madrone Trail Public Charter School, the Waldorf education model, and the families we serve. Being on campus brings back fond memories of my childhood, raising my kids, and why I became a professional educator many years ago. I greatly look forward to continuing this journey together.

I’d also like to acknowledge the faculty and staff for working hard to keep things as consistent as possible during this transition, and for their ongoing dedication and commitment to our students. There is a pretty special and amazing team at Madrone Trail, and we are fortunate they have chosen to serve this community.

Thank you for welcoming me into your home. If you ever have any questions or concerns, or would just like to say hello, please call or stop by any time.

With gratitude,

Andy Bracco

Greetings Madrone Trail Community!

Of our various initiatives, the Board is now turning towards our hiring process for an Executive Director for next year and beyond. We have a pool of applicants already, and more may join. Our hiring process for Executive Director is typically very rigorous, and we would like to solicit your input into the process. Here is a short survey to begin collecting your thoughts. This is open to staff, parents, community members, and yes, even students! Thank you for helping to make Madrone Trail an awesome community to be a part of!

For the good of the school,

Amazing News from the Kitchen!

Thanks to some changes this year at the state level, Madrone Trail qualifies to participate in a special program called the Community Eligibility Provision. We started the onboarding process in December and we received the amazing news today that we have been approved -- and with just moments to spare before the Friday Update is published, so we will get right to the point!

Because our community meets a minimum threshold of families participating in SNAP and Medicaid, all breakfast and lunch meals are FREE for all students K-8 starting January 1 (retroactively). Yes, you read that right! ALL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH MEALS ARE NOW FREE TO EVERY STUDENT K-8. We will no longer have to process lunch applications and we do not have to track which meals are served to which students, only count the meals each day. This is a game changer, obviously for our parents and kids who do not qualify for free meals already, but also eases the administrative burden on the lunch program.

Since the program starts retroactively on January 1, families who have paid for breakfast or lunch will be reimbursed for those charges incurred in January.

Please Note:

  • Snacks are not free and will still require funds in EZ app for all students.
  • Any positive balances left on accounts will be eligible for refunds - we are in the process of refunding paid meals to relevant accounts and will send emails directly to parents who are eligible for a refund as soon as we have established your remaining balance
  • Since students participating in the SPROUTS program are not technically district students, this does not apply to pre-K students. Pre-K students may still receive meals but at the established paid price -- funds will need to remain on your account

Our Pre-Order Policy Remains in Place

Pre-orders are required for breakfast burritos and our daily lunch specials; our other breakfast options and daily soups do not require a pre-order. Pre-orders are accepted until 10 pm the day prior to service. If we do not have a pre-order for your student, they are welcome to choose from our other delicious options. Click here for instructions to register for your EZ app meals account

Madrone Stand Out Performances VS Saint Mary’s

Coach Jones Report:

The girls are really coming together as a team. Anastasia is all hustle and go! Natasha is a rebounding machine. Sidra is a pro at stealing the ball. Maddy always rises to the occasion. Bella is on top of her game on the defensive end. The girls are showing great improvement in their skills on the court.

Madrone Athletics Fundraiser

Next month, our athletics program will be doing our largest fundraiser of the year to support our athletics program. We will be selling pies from the Willamette Pie Company. Their fundraising program has helped hundreds of organizations. In fact, my high school Girls’ basketball program has raised over seven thousand dollars the last 2 years using this program.

Any 6th or 7th grader that has participated in sports or clubs this year will be asked to help sell pies. The entire 8th grade class will be asked to sell pies with half of the proceeds from 8th grade going to the athletic fund and half going to the 8th grade trip. Some of the 8th graders came up with this idea; and it’s awesome.

Be on the lookout for pie order forms to come home January 29th. They will be due back at school February 20th. Pies will be delivered March 8th. If any student wants to help sell pies from a different grade level; simply email me their name and grade level.

Go Dragons!
