From the Assistant Director
Dear Madrone Trail Community,
We are back into the swing of things after the Winter Break. I have been kept very busy with juggling two jobs this week, but hopefully that will not be for too much longer. We have advertised for the Interim Director and Executive Director positions and are receiving applications for both positions. The Board and I met with candidates for the Interim position during the break and throughout this week and will continue to do so until we find someone to fill the position. We will keep you updated as we know more.
As a reminder, Mr. Roberts Celebration of Life is tomorrow, Saturday, January 6, at 4 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 1900 Greenwood St. in Medford. Community members are welcome to attend.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Cori Royer
Assistant Director and Games Teacher

From the Athletic Director
I thought the New Year would be a good time to talk about the purpose of sport in the lives of young people. Something that I tell my parents and athletes at the varsity level is that one of the true values of participating in sport is overcoming obstacles. In fact, the theme of my Girls’ varsity basketball season is “Perseverance." The true value of sport participation does not come through wins and loses. Rather it comes through the process of working hard, learning to play as a team, learning discipline, and fostering resilience. So as you watch your kids participate in sports here at Madrone Trail, Yes- cheer for the wins and encourage them to do their best, but also remember the end goal of having our students continue to develop as individuals and continue to connect to the community around them in new ways. Thank you so much to the parents, athletes, and companies that have contributed so much to make sport options here at Madrone Trail a reality for our Middle School students as they grow during this time in their lives. Sports are important and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of them here at Madrone.

Library Update
Our Madrone Trail Library was an amazing hit with the kids in 2023! We added 2,490 books to our library shelves, had 85% of our student population check out books, and our top reader checked out over 30 books! If you would like to help keep our Library's pages turning, please check out our Amazon Wish List, especially the Graphic Novel section--our most popular book genre. Huge shout out to our amazing family and friends who have already donated, your generosity changes lives!! We have had 55 books donated since we posted the wishlist!
"In books I have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own. I learned who I was and who I wanted to be, what I might aspire to, and what I might dare to dream about my world and myself." --Anne Quindlen

Bottle Drop Fundraiser
Still accepting Bottles & Can donations to support the 8th Grade Class Fundraiser!
The 8th graders are still collecting bottles and cans to raise funds for their 8th grade class budget and end of year trip. They have almost met the $600 goal! Thank you for all your donations.
We received a $40 donation from the BottleDrop matching fundraiser event. Thank you for your support!
A big THANK YOU to Sarah Bevers, parent and staff member, for her continued dedication to the coordination of collecting and dropping off donations at the BottleDrop center.
Please help them exceed their goal by dropping off donations in sealed/tied bags in plastic trash bags (please no paper or open bags). These will be placed in our special blue BottleDrop bags and taken to the center for redemption with our special coded tag that will be donated into our school account.
Parents may drop off sealed bags to the area between the dumpster and the greenhouse, at the end of the bamboo fence on the edge of the parking lot between the Kinder Yard and 7-8th grade modular.
If you have a personal BottleDrop account, and would like to donate from your account, login into your online account and search for Madrone Trail.

Winter Weather Procedures
Madrone Trail follows the decisions made by the Medford School District regarding severe weather procedures. Please refer to social media or media announcements for guidance from MSD.
In the event school needs to be delayed, canceled, or released early (due to an unexpected weather event occurring during school hours), the following decisions are possible:
Normal school hours – snow routes: some bus routes in higher elevations change due to snow or slick road conditions. Snow routes are posted ahead of time at: www.medford.k12.or.us/snow
Cancellation: School and district are closed.
Two-hour delayed start – regular routes OR snow routes: School begins two hours after regularly scheduled start time. Regular bus routes or snow routes may run, depending on road conditions.
Releasing school early – normal routes OR snow routes: School is released early due to hazardous road conditions. Buses may run regular routes or snow routes, depending on road conditions.
We will do our best to send updates to families as Special Announcement emails as well as on the homepage of our website, but just remember, is MSD closes, we do too!
