May Faire-- TOMORROW!

Tomorrow is the May Faire, rain or shine! Students should be there between 10:30-10:45 am. May pole events start at 11 am. Please come dressed for the weather and ready to have fun.

Please check the volunteer sign up to see what and when you are helping and what might need more help if you haven't signed up yet.

If you are bringing your canopy, please make sure you also have stakes and/or weights, given the weather forecast.

Each student came home this week with a May Faire checklist. Remember to bring flowers, bake sale items, and cash for tickets and food.

Each booth this year costs 2 tickets. Cost of tickets is $1 each or 25 for $20. See menu for options and cost.

We will also have the flower baskets for sale after the dancing at $25 each.

Please don't let a little liquid sunshine stop you from coming out and celebrating spring with our wonderful school community!

Chewy Update

Chewy has been hard at work with the students transforming waste from the kitchen and gardens into beautiful rich soil. Since starting work at the school one month ago Chewy has worked with over 60 children and already generated over 10 gallons of finished compost!

As they watch this transformation happen in front of them, students learn the recipe for a “compost cake”. All balanced compost piles should have:

-1 part Greens (food waste, grass clippings, fresh leaves or plant matter, etc)

-2 parts Browns (cardboard, newspaper, dead leaves, sawdust, straw, etc)

-A healthy mix of Sun, Rain, and Wind to keep it damp like a wrung out sponge

-Worms to taste (optional, but they do add a secret spice to the process!)

-Mix 2-3/week for faster results

It is awesome to see Chewy working with the children in this important area and we are excited about the prospects of significantly reducing food waste at school—not out-of-sight and into a landfill, but integrated and experiential recycling into a true resource for our community.

Baby Tryllium is Here!

Mr. Tryllium and his family welcomed their second son to the world on April 20. He was born at home at 3:45 am and the labor lasted only a few hours. Everyone is healthy and happy!

The little one is still waiting for his parents to come up with a name for him so for now he’s just Little Brother.

Sprouts Program 2024-2025

We have begun accepting applications for the 2024-2025 Sprouts Preschool Program. Interested families who have not yet filled out the Sprouts Preschool Program Interest Form should fill out the form to get on the list. Once you have submitted the form, the program manager will send further details about the program, teacher bios, cost, etc., for your review so you can make the best decision for your family. Applications will be sent out to families who have submitted their form.

Your child must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:

1. Child must be 4 years of age by June 1st, 2024 to be considered for the 24-25 school year.

2. Child must be potty trained.

3. Child must be able to be away from parents for at least a four hour period.

4. Note: Enrollment into the Sprouts program does not guarantee a spot in Kindergarten

State Testing

The window for taking our state-wide assessment, the SBAC, is now open. Students in 3rd-8th grade are tested annually in Language Arts and Math, and 5th and 8th graders are tested in Science as well. As per Oregon law, parents and guardians have the right to opt their children out of this assessment. In order to do this, you will need to meet in person with our School Test Coordinator, Ms. Cori, to sign the opt-out form. Please email her to set-up a time to meet if you wish to opt your child out of state testing, cori.royer@madronetrail.org. As a reminder, 3rd, 5th, and 8th graders do not have to take the Spring I-ready assessment so they can focus all of their attention on the SBAC.
