It is important that families fill out this form even if you do not plan on getting a school lunch for your children. It gives important demographic information to the district that can help us get additional funding for our school.

This form will be coming home soon if you prefer to fill out a hard copy.

You can also sign-up online:  MSD Free and Reduced Lunch Form

A Letter from the Board

Dear Madrone Trail Community,

For those of you who were unable to attend Parent Night, I would like to share with you a recap of some of the main points that were shared by board members in their message to the school community.

● Board communication: There are many avenues to communicate your questions/concerns with the board: Come to a board meeting and speak during the public comment section of the meeting; e-mail the board at mtpcsboard@gmail.com (note that your e-mail may become part of the public record); communicate directly with individual board members informally. Regularly scheduled board meetings are held the second Wednesdays of every month at 5:30p.m. at the school. If you are unable to attend the board meetings, you can always read the minutes from the board meetings posted on our website at:  http://madronetrail.org/our-community/school-board/school-board-meeting-minutes-agendas/

● Charter Renewal: The Medford School District (MSD) voted to renew the school's charter, effective July 1, 2018-June 30th, 2023. "Exhibit A," a one-page addendum found at the end of the charter, is the most significant change to our new charter. Please familiarize yourself with the new MSD requirements regarding standardized testing and student achievement as it directly affects our capacity to continue to operate under the charter agreement. You can access a copy of the charter on our website at: http://madronetrail.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Madrone-Trail-Charter-2018-2023.pdf

● Director search: Cori Royer has graciously agreed to step into the role of interim director while we continue to search for a director. If you are interested or know of anyone who may be interested in the position, please see the job posting on our website: http://madronetrail.org/join-us/employment-opportunities/

● Board member recruitment: The board currently consists of six voting members and two faculty officers. We would like to add more voting members, as five members is the minimum number allowed by our bylaws. Specifically, we are looking for someone with a background in fundraising, capital campaigns, and grant writing. Someone with a background in real estate or facilities management would also be desirable. We are also interested in recruiting community members outside of our school as it strengthens our ties with the larger community and helps to prevent potential conflicts of interest when dealing with sensitive school issues. However, we welcome all inquiries and applications.

● Fundraising: We are experiencing a tight financial year and appreciate your participation in school fundraising opportunities (auction, jog-a-thon, May Faire, etc), paying supply fees, and any other number of ways you may be able to help the financial health of our school. Please see http://madronetrail.org/our-community/fundraising/ for more information.

Wishing everyone a successful, fruitful and enjoyable new school year,

Monica E. Rathjen
MTPCS Board President

Climate Survey Results

In looking over the Climate Survey responses from this last June, some overall trends emerged.  On the positive side, participants feel that Madrone Trail has a strong foundation in Waldorf education that is acknowledged and appreciated by our community.  A majority of parents feel their children are receiving a quality education academically and through the specialty subjects.  On the whole, parents and students feel welcome at our school and think that it is a safe, nurturing environment.  Most parents have good relationships with their children's teachers and feel teachers are available to hear their questions and concerns.

Another trend that emerged that deserves attention is communication between various factions of the school community.  We have been through an eventful last year, and many issues were not addressed in timely manner.  Communication was lacking, and I commit to keeping everyone informed and in the loop as we start this new school year.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you feel you have an issue that needs to be addressed or if you feel communication continues to be an issue.

As we begin this school year with a fresh start, our faculty, administration, and board will continue to nurture our relationships with our students, parents, community members, and our sponsor, the Medford School District.

We truly do care about your input, and we appreciate everyone who participated in the Climate Survey.

Cori Royer
Interim Director

Quote of the Day

"The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility-- these are the three forces which are the very nerves of education."
