Dear Friends,
Last Sunday was such a blessing! We hope you can join us this Sunday for both Sunday School and Worship. The theme for Sunday will be joy. Our choir will be bringing us a joyful anthem and we will be singing three joyful hymns! You read that right. We do not always sing three hymns but we will this Sunday so I hope you will be there. It is also Communion Sunday which is always a joyful and holy celebration. We have classes to welcome you. Anita Stafford is teaching the new Young Adult class and this Sunday, Dallas will be leading the youth. You can join our Chosen class or you can visit the three established classes. They will all welcome you!
The schedule has been posted for Holy Week. We are trying two new services. On Wednesday evening, we will have a Healing Service. Yes, John Wesley believed in healing services. The liturgy is found in our Book of Worship. There have been people requesting this service so we will try in on Wednesday evening of Holy Week. The other new service is an Easter Vigil on Silent Saturday. This will be a come and go event from 1:00pm until 4:00pm in the sanctuary. On the day between the crucifixion and the resurrection, God Incarnate was sealed in a tomb and his disciples thought his ministry was dead. As they came out of hiding and gathered in the Upper Room, their grief must have been overwhelming. There will be a guided prayer book you can use and you sit in the sanctuary remembering God’s love through Jesus Christ.
Palm Sunday is always special with the children’s palm procession and the afternoon Egg Hunt. The youth have been great at organizing this event which includes a trailer trip around the Berg neighborhood. We expect this event to grow as we add more children to our church family!
We will not have a Lunch & Learn in March given the events around Easter. Our next lunch is April 14th after church. We have an exercise we will be doing regarding Core Values. We all have core values and organizations have core values. Churches have core values as a unit that may be different from our individual values. As we become aware of those things that matter the most to us, it is easier to make decisions because the things we do should align with our core values. This summer, we will start exploring our core theology. What do we believe? We need to be able to articulate that to those who may be seeking a community of faith.
Thank you again for your faithful giving. We had a record February which puts us in a great position for a very stable first quarter of 2024. There is a signup for helpful with church clean-up projects on a Saturday before Easter. Be sure and sign-up this Sunday. Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday so Spring Forward or you might miss church!
Grace and peace,
Beth
