UMCOR Hurricane Relief

Dear Friends,

This Sunday will be my seventh All Saints Sunday at Camden First United Methodist Church. This Sunday, we will read the names of thirteen church members who have entered the Church Triumphant, more than we have had in the other years. In seven years, I have read a total of sixty-five names. If I close my eyes, I still see them sitting in “their pew” or at least in their section. While the numbers reflect our older congregation, many of those names were much younger. While that still hurts my heart, I am hopeful for their future and for ours. Each life is redeemed and restored in ways we can only imagine. This is what we believe.

Please join us for Lunch & Learn Sunday after worship. The Young Adults are smoking pork butts and chicken quarters. We will have sides of barbeque beans and potato salad. You are welcome to bring a side or a dessert but do not worry if you forget. We always have more than enough.

There will be signup sheets on two tables plus discussions around what we have done this year and what more do we need to do next year. This will be our last Lunch & Learn of 2024. We will schedule four such lunches in 2025. While the are many challenges ahead, the discussions at our tables have given our leadership ideas that have led to successful ministries.

We especially want you to pray about Youth and Children’s Ministries. At one time this church was led and guided by paid staff, a pastor, and an associate pastor. Now we have only one fulltime staff member and a pastor and two part-time staff members. None of the salaries of our missional ministries such as the preschool and Food Pantry come out of our church budget. We have done all we can to reduce the rising costs of utilities and property insurance but they are increasing faster than our pledges. Those of you who own your own business are well aware of these challenges. Our new leadership committee will meet these issues with transparency. You have already proven that our church can do Children’s Ministries through volunteers and we are grateful for all those who have stepped up to host the Youth in their homes. Let’s continue this good work together.

Daylight savings time starts Sunday so enjoy your extra hour of sleep and we will see you Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Beth
