Church News

Dear Friends,

It has been a busy week! The week started with our second year with Revs. Ed & Kathleen Kilbourne providing leadership for our Thornton Lecture. What was different this year was the Kathleen provided one of the sessions each day and most of our participants were from the community. We have friends from the Food Pantry, Sue’s Table, one of our local nursing homes, and from Fairview UMC. It was very meaningful to many of our neighbors. One lady came up Wednesday and hugged me telling saying how much she had needed to hear what was presented that day. We are already working on plans for our next Thornton Lecture which will likely be in the Spring, away from football season!

To fulfill my continuing education requirement, I often take online classes. In our assignments for today, they asked us to go to a website about rest. Did you know that rest and sleep are not the same thing? This website has a Rest Quiz that you take that measures your rest in seven different areas:

           Physical Rest

           Mental Rest

           Emotional Rest

           Spiritual Rest

           Social Rest

Sensory Rest

           Creative Rest

If you provide you’re your email and your name (or initials or you wish to be anonymous), they will send you your rest scores. I found mine very helpful and perhaps, it may help you as well. The quiz is at www.restquiz.com

This fall is Charge Conference season and we will have a brief meeting Sunday after church to approve our basic reports for our Charge Conference on October 16th. While our District Superintendent does Charge Conferences for the larger churches, those churches who have Circuit Elders will have their Conferences done by the Elder. I will be doing Charge Conferences in Thornton, Smackover, Hampton, Fairview, and Mt Antioch. You are welcome to go with me if you would like.

Once again, we have included a calendar for the month of October. If you have a birthday that is left off or an event, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued faithfulness!

Grace and peace,

Beth
