Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest
St. Joseph Catholic School has participated in the Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, for several years. This week, classes will be introduced to the poster contest during Art Class. We will spend a couple of class periods on it to get students started, then it can be completed at home. Submitting a final poster is optional and encouraged! This wonderful contest causes students to reflect on the meaning of Christmas. Father Tom likes to choose a couple of pieces of student art for the bulletin covers around Christmas. The Knights of Columbus may feature some student Art on the Christmas Cards they sell. A folder is available in the Schoology Art Class, for all grades, and includes contest information and downloadable form. The posters will not be returned. Make a color copy prior to turning them in, if you like. Please submit posters with signed forms, taped to the back to Mrs. Sears, by Mon., Nov. 25. Questions? Email m.sears@sjschoolva.org.

Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day
Make every bite count. How do we “make every bite count”? Focus on nutrient-dense foods and beverages (85%), limit those higher in added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium (15%), and stay within calorie limits, Dietary guidelines 2020-2025. An article from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine states that diets abundant in fruits and vegetables are associated with a reduced risk for chronic disease. It is important to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy or fortified soy alternatives, and protein foods. When deciding what to eat or drink, choose options that are full of nutrients. A healthy eating routine is important at every stage of life and can have positive effects that add up over time. Click HERE to read more!

Read about walking pneumonia
What Is Pneumonia?
Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. Normally, the small sacs in the lungs are filled with air. In someone diagnosed with pneumonia, the air sacs fill up with pus and other fluid.
In general, pneumonia is not contagious, but the respiratory viruses and bacteria that lead to it are. Therefore, it is important that you keep your child home and take them to the doctor for an evaluation if they are suffering from fever and cold symptoms with prolonged coughing that has lasted > 10 days, is getting worse and not improving.
