Welcome Saints Ambassadors Needed! | |
Consider extending a warm SJS welcome to the newest families joining our community in the 2024-25 school year. This important aspect of the on-boarding process relies on current SJS families to serve as Family Ambassadors, and show the new families "the ropes". By focusing on creating a welcoming atmosphere, we can make sure our school is one where new families feel comfortable and want to be involved.
Serving as a Welcome Saints Family Ambassador is simple: reach out with an introductory email or phone call, and be willing to anticipate and answer those questions we all had as new families. The time involved is minimal, but the impact is immense.
Who should participate?
Whether this is your first year at SJS or you are a veteran Saints family, consider being a Welcome Saints Family Ambassador. You do not need to know all the answers to their questions; just sharing your own positive experiences, tips, and tricks can make all the difference to a new family.
Please contact Karen Brady at welcomesaints@sjschoolva.org

The Child Protection Program consists of two parts, an online background application and attendance at a Virtus Seminar. St. Joseph Catholic School encourages all parents to complete this program so that if an opportunity arises to volunteer and your schedule allows time to volunteer, you may do so! The Diocese has now changed the process and you must have a background application submitted and accepted by Beth Covert, our school liaison prior to scheduling your Virtus Seminar attendance.
St. Joseph will host a Spanish Virtus Seminar on Monday April 22 from 5-9 pm and an English Virtus Seminar on Friday April 26 from 5-9 pm. If you have completed your background check but have not attended this seminar, this is a great time to complete that part. If this is the case, please contact Beth Covert to get instructions as to how to register for either of these seminars.
If you haven’t started this process, the online background application should take about 20-30 minutes to complete and then you will receive an email to register for a Virtus Seminar. You cannot go to the Virtus website directly to register for a seminar, nor can you just attend the seminar prior to completing your background application.
If you have any questions about this program, please contact Beth Covert at bcovert@sjcherndon.org or (703)880-4357.

SJS SICK CHILD POLICY
2 0 2 3 – 2 0 2 4
Sick children often expose other students and school staff members to illnesses and germs. These Illnesses are disruptive to the educational process and to other children and their families.
When you have a respiratory virus infection, you can spread it to others. How long someone can spread the virus depends on different factors, including how sick they are (severity) and how long their illness lasts (duration). This is not the same for everyone. When, for at least 24 hours, your symptoms are getting better overall and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication), you are typically less contagious, but it still takes more time for your body to fully get rid of the virus. During this time, you may still be able to spread the virus to others. Taking precautions for the next 5 days can help reduce this risk. After this 5-day period, you are typically much less likely to be contagious. However, some people, especially people with weakened immune systems, can continue to spread the virus for a longer period of time. For COVID-19, taking an antigen test can help you know how likely you are to spread the virus. A positive test tends to mean it is more likely that you can spread the virus to others (CDC). Students who are not feeling well should stay home to help control the spread of germs.

Eucharistic Adoration is time spent in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament giving praise and thanks - in silence. During Adoration, the Eucharistic host is exposed and participants have a conversation with Jesus, pray the rosary or reflect on Scripture or other spiritual reading. As with any form of prayer, Adoration directs us inward, to the joy of a deeper relationship with God, and outward, to a more selfless love of others. Pope Francis said, "Jesus speaks in the silence of the mystery of the Eucharist."
Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
First Friday at 8:00 pm – First Saturday until 7:50 am – Nocturnal Adoration
