August 21, 2020
Dear Parents-

Please see the update to the Mitigation plan, found here. The CDC has updated guidance relative to persons with COVID-19 who have symptoms and were directed to care for themselves at home; persons who tested positive for COVID-19 but had no symptoms; and for the severely ill. Updated Mitigation Plan is also on the SJS website.

Parents of in-person learners are reminded to read the letter from Dr. Joseph Vorbach, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, and to complete the required Waiver Agreement, found here. For convenience, please fill in one form for each of your children who will attend school in person. Bring the form with you on your child’s first day of school. No students will be allowed to enter the school without first providing this form. By completing the waiver, you agree to assume the risks associated with sending your child to school during the pandemic. Additionally you agree to complete the daily health screening contained in the waiver.

Last Tuesday I provided the detailed arrival and dismissal information, and you can review that here.

Mrs. Lisk has been working on a reopen plan for Extended Day. Her Phase Three guidance allows for only 22 individuals (including adults) in each “location.” Due to cleaning protocols, Mrs. Lisk has only two available locations at SJS, and that limits the number of spaces available for Extended Day students. Available slots will go first to families that rely on Extended Day five days per week. Mrs. Lisk will reach out to families and questions should be directed to her as well.

All students will access homework, and distance learners will access their classes from Schoology. Schoology enables our students, parents and teachers to engage with learning materials in ONE place. With Schoology, students can digitally submit homework assignments, review grades, participate in interactive discussions, receive announcements and feedback, take tests, and more. As a parent, you will be able to view your child’s activity within the platform. Students and parents will both have login credentials and these will be available in the next few days. We value your participation in your child’s education, and we encourage you to read Schoology’s Privacy Policy & Terms of Use at  https://www.schoology.com/privacy. Student progress and activity will be monitored by faculty to ensure a safe, secure, and controlled environment.

I recognize that there is a lot of information coming quickly and often, and I know that can be exhausting, however, it is very important that you read all the information and if you have questions, please ask me. I am here to help make the transition back to school as smooth as possible, no matter which learning platform you selected.

Helping Those in Need
People living within the Catholic Diocese of Arlington have been hard hit by the ongoing economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic - and tens of thousands turned to the Church for help. Between March and July, our parishes and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington assisted more than 100,000 individuals, who knocked on our doors for help with food, rental assistance, medicine or other needs. Between March and July, 37 parishes and Catholic Charities spent more than $2 million in Covid-19 assistance to families and individuals in need.

The effects of the pandemic are ongoing. With your prayers and support, local parishes and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Arlington, will continue to bring assistance and hope to neighbors who are struggling.
