FRIDAY WORDS

Following a suggestion from IUPUI Community Scholar Harold Brown, the Marion County Public Health Department gathered a group of pastors in Indianapolis to specifically focus on the HIV crisis in worship. Marion County is one of 47 counties (of the 3,143 counties in the U.S.) that has been identified as a hotspot for HIV and receives special federal funding. As part of our work to End the HIV Epidemic as the people of Broadway, we will place special emphasis on youth and young adult education, prevention, and testing, while simultaneously working to improve care, provide support, reduce stigma, and build a community of belonging for people living with HIV (PLHIV). Over the next four weeks, we hope you will engage in deep reflection on how together we can live into the reality of the Beloved Community here at Broadway and be agents of love led by the Spirit.

Please take a moment before Sunday to complete the following brief survey:

LAITY EQUALIZATION MEMBERS NEEDED

Do you want to have your voice heard at Annual Conference? If so, it’s not too late.

In order to provide full representation of laity at this year’s Annual Conference Session, Bishop Trimble has ruled an exception to our rules for 2021. Several districts, including our district (Central), will be holding a second district conference in order to fill their open laity equalization spots. Dates for these conferences will be finalized soon.

Interested? All you need to do is complete a 2021 Willingness to Serve Form by Monday, April 12th. That’s it!

If you were elected earlier at this year’s district conferences, you don’t need to do anything more. Voting members in each district will receive additional information.

Questions? Contact Ruth Ellen Needler at [email protected]

A note about serving from our Conference Lay Leader, David Johns:

“Annual Conference 2021 needs laity equalization members. If you’re a member of the Church and are not clergy, you’re laity! It’s you we’re talking about. We need to balance the number of laity at Annual Conference with the number of clergy. It ensures that laity has an active and vital role in the operation and decisions of our Church."
MISSION STATEMENT READERS NEEDED

Each week, members of Broadway's beloved community help us reaffirm our Mission Statement during the weekly worship service recordings. If you would like to volunteer to read the Mission Statement for our worship services, please record yourself reciting Broadway's Mission Statement -- alone or with your friends and family! -- and email the recording to Jim Fore at [email protected]. Landscape oriented (sideways instead of up-and-down) recordings work best, and the Mission Statement can be found on both our website and the weekly worship bulletins if you need a refresher.
