Tomato Day!

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
-Brian O'Driscoll

Whether you like to grow them, can, eat them or can them (or all of the above), we have something for you this weekend. Come celebrate one of summer's tastiest treasures. Discover a favorite new heirloom, learn some new tips for preserving and growing tomatoes, chow down on fried green tomatoes and say cheers with a Bloody Mary! We have lots of tomato fun for the kids too, and some great tunes with Friends of Tom(ato) - haha.

You'll find tomatoes at: Apple Ridge Farm, Backyard Growers, Blooming Glen Farm, Pheasant Hill Farms, Salvaterra's Growers, and Scholl Orchards.

Bacon-Spinach & Couscous Stuffed Tomatoes

"We love beefsteak tomatoes because they are meaty, firm, and perfect for stuffing. Brush the inside of each hollowed-out tomato with bacon drippings to make them extra smoky and savory. As the tomatoes roast and soften, their tangy juices enhance the bacon, spinach, and couscous stuffing.  You can easily swap out the couscous for rice, orzo, or quinoa."
