July Arts and Inspiration
The Next Installment of the Black Lives Matter Film Series!
Do the Right Thing
Watch on Amazon via Zoom!
Friday, July 31 @ 6:00 pm

With the current social conditions present in both local and global perspectives, it is essential now to educate ourselves and act deliberately to be anti-racist. Sanctuary UCC is partnering with Hillside Community Church to bring you the Black Lives Matter Film Series.

This collection of films will deconstruct and frame an understanding of the inherent power structures in America and the effects this debilitating system has on communities and people of color. Please join us in listening, understanding, and acting in dismantling what racism is in our community.

Discussion will begin at 8:30 PM - led by filmmaker, community organizer, and co-founder of Mobilize Medford, Crystal Chandler.

ABOUT THE FILM
On the hottest day of the year on a street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, everyone’s hate and bigotry smolders and builds until it explodes into violence.
Still essential 30 years later!

Reviews:
“Do the Right Thing is so much larger than its Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn setting. That small slice of street acts as a microcosm for the entire racial system in America-one that is still at work and even more prevalent today.”

“Smart, vibrant, and urgent without being didactic, Do the Right Thing is one of Spike Lee’s most fully realized efforts — and one of the most important films of the 1980s.”
