Connecting Our Dismas Fellowship Communities

Dismas is Gathering Momentum!

This year we have already organized 3 new Dismas Fellowships (Kitchener, Niagara and Toronto West) with a fourth one possibly forming soon (Kingston).

We are gaining good traction to move forward but there is still so much more we can do. Perhaps someone reading this is from a city or town that does not have a Dismas Fellowship. Call me and we'll talk about the possibilities!

Dismas Toronto West set to launch on Friday, June 6, 2025!

Yes, that's right! Toronto will have two Dismas Fellowships! On April 9, Some folks from Dismas Toronto, Christ Church St. James and the Keele Centre got together with Community Coordinator Paul Tuck and FoD chair Paul Bar to plan a second Dismas. On Friday, June 6 Toronto West will launch with an "Information Night" and then proceed "full steam ahead." The new group is organized under the board of "Toronto East" and will meet on the first Friday of each month, while the original Toronto Dismas will continue to meet on the third Friday of every month.

Christ Church Saint James, located at 194 Park Lawn Road is very excited about extending their involvement with former inmates.

Community Coordinator, Paul Tuck spoke at the TNT (Thursday Nights Together) group at Christ Church St. James on April 24. He retold the story of Dismas and his relevance to us today, followed by some Q&A about Dismas Fellowship Network. Many folks expressed an interest in the new group starting at CCSJ and committed to attending on June 6 for the Introduction Night.

Plans Move Forward for KINGSTON!

Mary-Jo Mackinnon-Simms shares from Kingston...

We are hoping to have an information evening for Dismas on May 27, 6:30 PM at St Joseph Church , 392 Palace Road in Kingston. We hope you have people come who may be interested in being a part and supporting this initiative. It would be an opportunity to hear a presentation and field questions about Dismas.

Some Dismas Updates..

Brockville's "Birthday Boy"

Dismas Brockville celebreated the 52nd birthday of their chair, Eric Richards on Monday, April 14. Moira catered an awesome meal of chinese chicken and rice in gravy with carrot cake for dessert. Alex brought the reflection, posing the question "At what end of the cross are you?"

Cambridge Met on Easter Monday

It seems that ham was popular with Dismas groups in April! Although over half of the usual attendees were absent due to Easter family and other obligations, the Cambridge crew enjoyed a wonderful time reflecting on the cross and enjoying ham, two types of potatoes, veggies and way too much dessert! Nobody complained about all the leftovers to take home!

Guelph Meeting "On Ice"

Unfortunately, Dismas Fellowship Guelph had to cancel its April meeting due to a freak ice storm! So folks will have to wait until the May meeting to enjoy Pam's famous Chilaquiles (Mexican Lasagna).

Good Friday Gathering in Hamilton

Dismas Hamilton celebrated Good Friday together with a ham dinner (fish for our Catholic friends) potatoes, veggies and tons of desserts. The theme for the night was "Dismas Encounters Jesus" and the sharing around the circle was both emotional and enlightening.

Kitchener Continues to Grow

The new Dismas in Kitchener (KW) met again on April 10. The group enjoyed a fine meal prepared by William. Lynda led the song time and Paul brought a reflection about "Waiting."

Dismas Niagara 2nd Meeting.

Dismas Niagara had to change the date of their meeting in April because of Federal Elections (the church is a voting location).

They met on Monday, April 21 (Easter Monday) with a very good attendance (24) with a few first time guests. A delicious meal of shepherd's pie, salad and baked goods was provided by the Durban Home Church (affiliated with Bethany Community Church) of St. Catharines. {Niagara Dismas already has a line up of groups that want to prepare meals for them, with the next two months covered!} Steve B brought the reflection which was about giving and accepting appreciation.

Toronto: Time of Reflection & Connection...

On April 25, Dismas Fellowship Toronto enjoyed a potluck gathering. There was a lot of food to satisfy the hungry guests! For the Circle Time, Kevin Daudlin led everyone in an interactive reading of some of the events leading up to Christ's crucifixion. It was great to see Harry Nigh back in action! Paul Tuck, Community Coordinator, also attended. The group said goodbye to seminarian placement "Brother Dismas" who is returning back to California after volunteering for 2 years with Dismas Toronto.
