World Cares Center's July Newsletter

Dear Friend,

Wow has summer kicked off with a weird start thanks to the Canadian wildfire smoke shrouding NYC! I am sorry to say I was beckoned back to those first few days and weeks following the attacks of September 11, 2001. I hope that you are all safe both physically and emotionally. We continued to post updates on the impact of the smoke and distributed KN95s and N95s to those that needed respiratory protection. Never hesitate to reach out to us if you need training, information, PPE, or a kind and understanding ear!

I am thrilled to report that our July 2023 Collaborative Disaster Volunteer Credential Train the Trainer session is approaching soon. A special thanks to Atlantic COHST, Rutgers University, and NIEHS for supporting the trainer’s exchange. I would also like to thank Con Edison for their longtime and continued support of our mission through a grant for our 2023 programs. Upon completion of the Collaborative Disaster Volunteer Credential Train the Trainer session, we will be scheduling training sessions for our community partners to credential thier volunteers. Many of you have inquired when we will start, we are projecting September 1st . The program can be self-paced, online via Zoom, or in person. Do not hesitate to contact me.

With the warmer weather upon us, we hope you enjoy your outdoor activities and stay safe. For safety tips on Extreme Heat and Summer Safety join our Lunch and Learn session. Steve Landfield will present a series of safety tips for Ready Responders and safety-minded citizens alike. Please see more information below and a link to sign up. As usual, these sessions are free of charge.

Moving on to our socials and fundraisers, please join the Next Gen Board and me on July 20th for our summer social! We hope to meet many of you at Katch Astoria where you can Socialize, Network, and Raise Awareness.

A huge thank you to our current Stars Under the Stars sponsors Sugar in the Raw, Bank of America, Davis Brody Bond, Brooklyn Brewery, Brown Advisory, Fornino and Marcum LLP. The Stars Under The Stars Fundraiser is at Fornino Brooklyn Bridge Park on Thursday, September 21st.

 Train the Trainer

July 10-14, 2023

8:30-5:00

World Cares Center hosts the first cadre of Trainers during a week long Collaborative Disaster Volunteer Credential Train the Trainer. These trainers will then return to their communities and deliver this three level credential training that ensures our volunteers are trained to provide a standard in service while remaining safe themselves. The initiative also promotes collaboration with the knowledge that member organizations are working from the same agreed to standards. In addition to the training, community groups will be given membership to the free knowledge and communication center where they can continue to increase their awareness on disaster response techniques as well as stay connected with other members and access management tools.
