Dear Friend,
This fall has been a busy one at World Cares Center (WCC). Please help us welcome and congratulate Dean B. Angelakos, Executive Director, Greater New York LECET, as he joins our WCC's Board of Directors.
The first Collaborative Disaster Volunteer Credential Advisory Board has been meeting once a month to review our three tiered credential to ensure that disaster volunteers and member organizations can be trained on a common platform, ensuring we can all response effectively together in preparation for and response to disasters. Membership is open to all that wish to participate. You can learn more about the initiative here.
World Cares Centers technical team is simultaneously developing our newest enterprise to house our knowledge and communication center. This state of the art platform offers a free training, the ability to form and function within groups, communicate and use a tool kit specifically designed to support grassroots community organizing in disaster response. This portal is a game changer for all that access the training, the tools and the community. The portal will launch in the first quarter of 2021 and is free to voluntary organizations and their volunteers, thanks to the generous support of Con Edison, Rutgers University, Atlantic COHST, TD Bank, and numerous individual funders.
In response to the catastrophic destruction left by Hurricane Ian and Fiona , WCC has been supporting our partners in Florida and Puerto Rico. Stay tuned for updates from the field as we deploy to be a part of organizing a collaborative response that ensures surviving homeowners who are taking charge of their recovery and disaster volunteers are trained and provided with proper PPE and supplies.
We continue to support Ukraine as our Medical and Resiliency team prepares for a spring deployment with generous support from the DRI Foundation. WCC is excited to work with Ukraine Colleges and their students to expand our programs within the country and support a team of Ready Responders. Monthly Roundtables bringing together service providers wishing to work in partnership with their peers and connects them to resources including WCC Ukraine Healing Journals for Children and Guidebooks for Caregivers and Parents.
As we near giving Tuesday we urge you to consider supporting World Cares Center. You can make a donation here.
Please continue reading below for more information on our daily training and programming and do not hesitate to connect with us.
