Making a Difference for Children, Youth, & Families

Outdoor photo of elementary-age kids at VBS all smiling and holding up their little art projects

Dear Friends,

There are lots of new opportunities for our Children’s, Youth, & Family Ministries for our 2025–26 programming year. We have a renewed group of leaders and volunteers and I’m excited for what God has in store for us!

Our Children’s Church program consists of STARS (3–5 years), BLAST (6–10 years), and child care (0–2 years). All of our Children’s Church programs will take place in the Phoenix Center. Please consider volunteering — we need more adult shepherd volunteers for our classrooms.

Our Youth Ministry programs consist of a Middle School Group (5th–7th grade) and a Confirmation/Discipleship Group (8th grade & up), both meeting on 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month from 5–7 pm. There is also a parents’ group that meets at the same time (child care provided). Other church groups are invited to volunteer to provide a simple dinner from 5–5:30 pm.

Faithfully,

Rich

Death Cafés — Obituaries

Sunday, September 14 • 3 pm • Fireside Room

Join Pastor Annanda for our first Death Café! These monthly events are meant to help normalize discussions around end-of-life preparations. This month we’ll explore the history and practical importance of writing our obituaries, practice writing our own, and discuss what it means to reflect on our own lives and how we would like to be remembered while we are still living. Coffee, tea, and cookies will be provided. See you there!

Bear Creek Redwoods Hike

Tomorrow! Saturday, September 13 • 8:30 am • Map • RSVP

Jonathan Dix is leading us on a moderate hike at Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve in Los Gatos. The hike is a 5.3-mile loop, mostly shaded with some open exposure.

We’ll meet at the Bear Creek parking lot at 8:30 am. (Note the earlier start time due to parking constraints.) Please RSVP if you can join us. Carpooling is highly encouraged.

Adult Learning
Sharing Small Group Stories

Sunday, September 14 • 11:30 am • Soulé Hall & Zoom

Hear members (old and new) share their experiences belonging to smaller groups within the church. Learn how connecting with other Sunnyvale Pres folks and building those relationships has impacted their lives. After a time of sharing and Q&A, there will be an opportunity to sign up for a connect group.

Evensong

This month’s Evensong Contemplative Worship will be a special service in which Keyla Zorzella will guide us in understanding and using the labyrinth. After a time of lovely contemplative worship, we will move to Trinity Court where 7-circuit rope labyrinths will be set up. Everyone will have a chance to have an encounter with God through the labyrinth. Join us for this unique experience!

This year’s Peace & Global Witness offering will support Somos Watsonville, an inclusive, bilingual gathering space where families can explore their identities, connect with others, receive support and skills, and engage in fellowship and fun. Somos Watsonville was incubated by the Presbytery of San Jose and is overseen by the Rev. Julie Porras-Center, who preached at Sunnyvale Pres on July 20.

Thank you for contributing online or by check. Be sure to designate “Peace & Global Witness” in the drop-down menu online, or on the memo line on your check.

This event will be held at Sunnyvale Pres and everyone is welcome to attend. Lunch will be provided. Registration is requested by October 1.
