Greetings from Pastor Hardy | | |
Dear Friend,
I have exciting news! Session (on the recommendation of the Personnel Ministry Team and a dedicated hiring committee) has officially confirmed hiring Cody Scott as our permanent choir director. We are absolutely thrilled that God has called Cody to ministry with us!
Cody has already been leading our choir and our congregational music experiences with enthusiasm and grace. He’s been a generous collaborator with other music and ministry leaders and he’s worked hard to engage many new folks in Sunday morning worship. I’m excited about how our worship will grow in new ways with Cody’s leadership, so I wanted you all to hear more from him directly. Here’s a message from our new choir director!
In hope,
Pastor Hardy

Hi all! I’m incredibly grateful to continue at Sunnyvale Pres as your permanent choir director. This uplifting, inclusive community and the music we create bring me so much joy. For those who don’t know me, I’m an extrovert who loves conversation — please say hi anytime! I’m active in the LGBTQIA+ community and enjoy singing with my community choirs. In my downtime, I love video games, playing with cats, hiking, and working out. I’m excited to grow together in fellowship at Sunnyvale Pres!

Sunnyvale Pride Fest
Tomorrow! Saturday, June 14 • 11 am–2 pm
Downtown Sunnyvale, Plaza del Sol (200 W. Evelyn Ave.)
| | |
As you may have heard, Sunnyvale Pres is organizing and hosting Sunnyvale Pride tomorrow! We are a church that prioritizes peace and social justice, which includes LGBTQ+ Pride. When Carol Heath heard earlier this year that the city didn’t have staff resources to organize the event, Carol and her friend Saldy Suriben stepped up to volunteer. Many thanks to them and to church staff and volunteers for making it happen. Please come for the festivities!

Peacemaking Conference
Friday, June 20–Sunday, June 22
Registration fee $25 (meals included) • Register
| | |
In the face of government overreach and violence against “the least of these” in our society, many in our community are looking for ways to respond — which is why we’ve invited leaders with diverse peacemaking experience in Northern Ireland, Korea, South Africa, and Palestine to come share their wisdom. Join us for as many sessions as you can. You’ll hear their perspectives and connect directly with other folks interested in peacemaking here in our community.

- June 21 — yoga
- June 22 — no facilitated labyrinth walk (feel free to go on your own)
- July 13 — Centering Prayer
Be sure to check the Events page to see the full church calendar and highlighted upcoming events!

Everyone is invited to this year’s virtual Pride worship service with More Light Presbyterians! Together, we will live into the theme of Queer Joy as Resistance. MLP is excited to welcome the Rev. Shenea Leonard and musician Matthew Black in what we are sure will be a holy and sacred time of worship.
Join us over Zoom for this powerful opportunity to worship together with others from across the country. (Note: this service happens at 4 pm, so it will not overlap with our special Peacemaking worship service at 10 am.) Register to receive the link.

If you do not want to sing in the worship service, we would be glad to have you sing with us in rehearsal anyway! We will be learning some Queer-affirming hymns, a social justice-oriented anthem, along with some contemporary pop arrangements. Learn more and sign up online.

Upcoming Sermon Series — Your input is welcome!
We are planning a sermon series later this year entitled “Community IRL: Sermons of Love and Hope.” The series will focus on deepening our engagement in the church community and sharing our values and culture through storytelling. We’re asking for your help! During June, we’ll have a box in the narthex to collect sermon topic suggestions for this series. Please stop by the narthex and give us your input!
