Dear Kris,

I feel blessed to preside at many memorial services and work with families to honor the life and faith of their loved one.

In that process, many families wonder which hymns or scriptures their loved one would want, and often ask me to choose for them. I’m happy to do so, but there’s another way! As I mentioned at our recent class on The Art of Dying Well, I have my own memorial service plans on file at church — and you can too!

So here’s my invitation. I'll be at Peet’s Coffee (144 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale) on Thursday, March 21 from 12–2 pm. Drop by! We’ll chat about memorial plans and then keep your preferences on file at church for the future. Whether it’s two of us or a small group at Peet’s, it will be a worthwhile conversation!

If you’d rather talk more privately, we can also meet another time.

New Shade Structures

The sun shades are up and doing a great job of screening the sun and shading Trinity Court. What a difference they will make come summer!

Funded by the endowment, the shades would not be standing without the efforts of Joe Don Heath and Jim Moffett. They coordinated everything — ordering, delivery, site preparation, installation, and permits and inspections.

Please take time to personally thank the two of them and hear about the challenges they overcame!

Annual Meeting

Be sure to attend the annual meeting on Sunday, March 17, immediately after worship. In addition to discussing the church finances and voting on the terms of call for the pastors, we’ll also be voting on updates to the church bylaws, which you’re encouraged to read ahead of time here.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Saturday, March 23 • 10 am–noon

Join us for an Easter Eggstravaganza! We will have egg dyeing, balloon animals, food, a bounce house, and more. Bring your own hard-boiled eggs and get ready for a morning of Easter activities. Fun for kids of all ages!

One Great Hour of Sharing: A Palm Sunday Tradition

Give online anytime or at church on Palm Sunday, March 24

For 50 years, Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church has joined with Christians around the world to give to One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS). These funds support Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Self-Development of People, and Presbyterian Hunger Program. OGHS makes a widespread difference — from building homes to feeding the hungry, in California and around the world.

Donate anytime, and join us in worship on Palm Sunday, March 24, as we dedicate our offerings.

Palm Sunday Service & Potluck

March 24 • 11 am

Trinity Court or Gym

Come to worship a little early, drop off a potluck dish to share, attend church, and then stay for lunch! Bring a main dish or side dish to share. Fellowship Hall will be open if your dish needs to be refrigerated or kept warm. Dessert and drinks will be provided. What a great way to start Holy Week together with your church friends!

Come be a part of our all-ages Maundy Thursday celebration during Holy Week. Children and youth are encouraged to attend! Before worship, we’ll commemorate Jesus’ last supper with His disciples with a meal of our own. Our meal will be friendly for vegans and vegetarians, as well as those with dairy and nut allergies. We’ll provide the food — just show up!

Celebrating with Pat Vorreiter

Long-time church member Pat Vorreiter was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Community Service at the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce’s Celebrate Sunnyvale Award & Gala on February 29. In addition to serving Sunnyvale Pres as a Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister, and Presbytery representative, Pat served one year as Mayor of Sunnyvale and eight years on the Sunnyvale City Council, among many other positions. If you see Pat, congratulate her on this very prestigious award!
