News from Pastor Hardy

Dear Kris,

This Sunday we’ll celebrate Pastor Karin’s seventeen years of compassionate ministry. Her welcoming voice, her natural leadership, and especially her heart for the Caring Ministry have touched countless lives within our congregation and beyond. Karin’s grace has helped us all feel the presence of God’s steadfast love throughout every phase of life.

No amount of thanks is enough for the priceless gift of her ministry. I’m grateful for our time in ministry together, and for all the ways she’s prepared us to continue to thrive as a caring community.

As we send Karin on to her next chapter with our gratitude and blessing, a new Transitional Associate Pastor, Rev. Laura Mariko Cheifetz from Nashville, TN, will be coming in to help for at least the next six months. She’ll have primary responsibility for Caring Ministries and worship coordination (alongside Beth Treitel), as well as moderating session and providing staff leadership when I’m away for my sabbatical this fall. Keep your eye out for opportunities to connect with Pastor Laura when she comes later in July.

With joy and gratitude,

Hardy

Looking Forward to CARAVAN

Trip dates: July 21–28

CARAVAN Sunday: July 28 during worship

City welcome sign in Paradise California

Join us for worship on July 21 as we send our CARAVAN participants off to do recovery work in Paradise, CA from the 2018 Camp Fire. They’ll be staying at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Oroville, CA. In addition to keeping the CARAVAN team in your prayers, please pray for Oroville as they recently had a very close call from the Thompson Fire, which is still burning but mostly contained.

Then join us on July 28 for CARAVAN Sunday, when we’ll celebrate our participants’ return and hear about their amazing experiences!

Inclusion and social justice are among our church community’s core values. Thanks to generous donations, the Sunnyvale Pres library team has expanded our collection of children’s books with new titles reflecting these values. You’ll find books affirming diverse cultures, genders, and family structures, as well as the treasure God sees in each one of us. Stop by the church library to find these powerful stories to share with your children or grandchildren!
