Greetings!

Friday Contemplation

Things are cooking at The Portico. Here are a number of the exciting developments that I hope you will be a part of:

New Time & Name. The Gathering meets at 10:01 a.m. at 1001 N. Florida starting June 12. We will be monthly through the summer still meeting on the 2nd Sunday (June and July).

Music Returns. Music has returned to The Gathering! Last Sunday, Joe and Nicole led us. Our community is full of talented musicians who will be sharing their musical gifts and leading us in worship.

Meeting Weekly. Many folks are anticipating The Gathering will meet weekly. We are targeting the fall. Two more important service roles need to be in place before we announce the date. 10 Hospitality volunteer opportunities are still open, including the leadership position who will coordinate the ministry. Commitment is 2 times/month. 2 sound / tech opportunities. Commitment is 1-2 times/month.

Once those are solidified, we will announce the date.

New Partnership and Community Meal Changes. Starting in the summer, we will be taking The Community Meal on the road once a month to Tampa Hope Homeless Shelter. There are 100 people in the tents there; and there is a great need for outside churches and organizations to bring food and serve on the weekends. More details later in the month and our leader, Kristen K, will be coordinating.

Upcoming Opportunities:

You are Loved.

The Portico Community is a non-conventional church whose mission is to make God’s Love Real through spiritual practices and to serve the city and world in ways that address equality, housing insecurity, and economic challenge. We are a community of Hyde Park United Methodist.

The Portico Cafe is a social enterprise that offers people transitioning from homelessness, addiction, and incarceration--job training, employment ladders, and connections to safe, affordable housing. Support here.
Sunday Gatherings
Grow more deeply in love. Consider these gatherings:

  • Community Meal, 6/12 at 11 Participate Sunday where we get our "knees under tables" with friends and neighbors who are unsheltered or hungry and occurs immediately after The Gathering.
Join a Small Group
  • Join a Group - Our community thrives as we gather, grow and serve. The Portico's primary vehicle for that is small groups. We have a bunch. If you can't find one, Justin or Mark B will help you create or join one. These new groups have spots available.
