Connect With Pacifica This Week
Greetings!

July 4 th is around the corner, so a reminder about fun and safety. First, see the details below about the 45 th Annual 4 th of July Event at Frontierland Park, as well as the Rocket Run. I hope you can participate in these fun events held by the Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Department. Next, see the safety information about fireworks, and know that those possessing or discharging illegal fireworks are subject to a $1,000 fine. If you host a gathering on your property, and your guests are discharging illegal fireworks, YOU are subject to the $1,000 fine. Aside from being illegal, these fireworks are dangerous and were responsible for several fires in Pacifica last year. Finally, see the details below about Post July 4 th Clean-up Events with the Pacific Beach Coalition.

I also encourage you to attend one of the upcoming Plan Pacifica meetings to give your input into the City’s General Plan Update, Local Coastal Program Update, and the Sharp Park Specific Plan. Two meetings are happening next week on Monday and Tuesday nights, July 1 and 2, details below. And if you cannot attend one of the five community meetings, there are other ways to give input throughout the process. Visit the project website to learn more.

As always, go safely this week and please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica!

Sincerely,
KEVIN WOODHOUSE
City Manager

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Volunteers Needed – Post 4th of July Cleanup
We all enjoy celebrating the 4th of July, and there’s nothing more patriotic than saving our fish, sharks, turtles, whales, and snowy plovers by picking up this eventful day’s litter. Let’s all do our part to make this ‘land of the free… free of debris!’
Every July, the Pacific Beach Coalition organizes a team of Earth Heroes who take action by cleaning up our streets and beaches after the celebratory traditions of the 4 th of July. Fireworks litter and debris on the streets and from our yards can blow in the wind into San Pedro Creek, Milagra Creek, the Secret Waterfall, or our ocean.

Take part in this great cause. Find the dates and places we are going to be working here. Fill out your Online Waiver Form and join our team for this year’s Post 4th of July cleanups!
CITY NEWS
4th of July
The City of Pacifica and the Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Department invite you to kick off your 4th of July holiday at 9:00am by joining in our annual 5-mile Rocket Run, which starts and ends at the Pacifica Community Center. Then head up to Frontierland Park from 11:00am to 4:00pm for a food, fun, games, and music! More info available here.
Be Safe this 4th of July
Please use only "Safe and Sane" fireworks which are sold at local fireworks stands. These fireworks are easily identifiable by a State Fire Marshal logo on product packaging. All other fireworks are ILLEGAL to possess and use in Pacifica.

  • Inspect all fireworks. Never use damaged or leaking fireworks.
  • Never give fireworks to a small child.
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.
  • Light only one item at a time. Use a shovel and drop any “dud” fireworks into a pail of water.
  • Keep spectators at least 10 feet away.
  • Use fireworks in a clear area at least 20 feet away from a house, wood fence, or brush.
  • Keep an extra pail of water, wet towels, charged garden hose or fire extinguisher on hand for emergencies.
  • Do not point fireworks at anyone.
  • If someone is injured or a fire is started, call 9-1-1 immediately.
  • Clean up after your fun. Help keep our streets and beaches CLEAN.
See the Police Department’s Press Release: Rules for Fireworks in Pacifica to educate yourself and others on safe practices for the coming holiday celebrations.
Plan Pacifica – We Want to Hear from You
You are invited to help Plan Pacifica's future at a series of community meetings to discuss the General Plan, Coastal Plan, and new Sharp Park Specific Plan!

In early 2019, the City of Pacifica began the simultaneous process of updating its General Plan and Local Coastal Program, and developing a new specific plan for the Sharp Park area. The General Plan is the City's most important planning tool, and has not been comprehensively updated since 1980. Now, it's time to create a new plan which will guide the City for the next 20 years or more. Through these meetings, we are asking YOU to tell us what is important to you. The first meeting was held this week, with great success. There are still four more and details of dates and locations can be found below. You can learn more about this project at www.planpacifica.org.

Whether you are a resident and/or work in a given area, or an invested resident from another one, everyone is welcome to help Plan Pacifica! This event is FREE! Please RSVP to help us better plan. Child care and a light meal will be provided at each meeting. Doors open at 5:45 pm. RSVP here.
