Connect With Pacifica This Week
Greetings!

This week in my Tribune Column, I provided a summary of the City’s adopted budget for the July 2019 through June 2020 fiscal year. This balanced, transparent, accountable, and prudent budget supports forward progress on critical programs and services for the Pacifica community. The City Council, I and City staff are excited and energized for the many important projects and program enhancements forthcoming this year, from increased funding for streets paving projects to expansion of childcare services to critical planning studies, economic development activities, environmental sustainability activities, housing opportunities, and more. So much to do, which also makes it important to occasionally pause and reflect on what’s been accomplished, and recharge your batteries by taking some time away from your day-to-day routine. I hope you’re able to enjoy some of those vital moments this summer!

Thank you to the hundreds and hundreds of community members who recently attended and contributed to the City's "Plan Pacifica" public engagement meetings to discuss the General Plan and Local Coastal Program updates and development of a Specific Plan for the Sharp Park neighborhood. Your input is critical to developing these important planning documents to help shape the future of Pacifica. In addition to the five different community meetings already completed, there will be additional opportunities to provide your input as the planning process proceeds. Please visit the Plan Pacifica website to learn more.

As always, go safely this week and please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica!

Sincerely,
KEVIN WOODHOUSE
City Manager
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Pacifica's Energy Efficient Council Chambers
The City of Pacifica was featured this week in the San Mateo County Energy Watch (SMCEW) e-newsletter for their use of funding from SMCEW to make heating and lighting upgrades to Council Chambers. The improvements have resulted in more efficient energy usage and a Council Chambers that operates in a more environmentally friendly way. You can read more about the City’s energy-efficiency project here.

San Mateo County Transit Authority Survey
San Mateo County Transportation Authority is asking for YOUR INPUT on how to allocate funding. Help frame transportation funding in Pacifica for the coming years by taking this survey!

In 2018, voters approved Measure W, a half-cent sales tax for transportation in San Mateo County. San Mateo County Transportation Authority will manage fifty percent of the measure. Currently, the agency is determining how to best evaluate projects so that those of greatest merit are priorities for future funding. You can learn more about the project here.
HIP Housing – Making a Difference in our Community
HIP Housing is nonprofit agency specializing in creative affordable housing solutions throughout San Mateo County. Their mission is to invest in human potential by improving the housing and lives of people in our community. Through their Home Sharing Program, HIP Housing enables people with special needs, either from income or circumstance, to live independent, self-sufficient lives in decent, safe, low-cost homes.

SMC Alert: The Opt-in Alert Notification System
SMC ALERT is the alert notification system used throughout San Mateo County to immediately contact you or your loved ones during urgent or emergency situations. You can set alerts to send emergency and non-emergency text and voice messages to your email accounts, cell phones, smartphones, tablets, and voice messages to landline phones (home & work).

You set the filters and determine the type of messages you want to receive such as information about road closures, hazardous situations, or critical incidents. SMC Alert was used to notify registered members about the recent mall shooting in San Bruno and provide real-time information.

SMC ALERT is free and is used by all cities and towns in San Mateo County. Whether you live, work or recreate in San Mateo County, consider enrolling today. Follow this link to see FAQs and to register.
