Connect With Pacifica This Week
Greetings!

This week brought some spectacular weather to Pacifica, luring many people to Pacifica’s beaches. Continuing the public safety theme I often write about, you’ll begin to notice new Beach Safety Signs installed by the City, improving the previous warning signs regarding rip currents. In addition, the City developed a Beach Safety Tips brochure to help inform beachgoers about rip currents and other safety tips while enjoying our beaches. This brochure was distributed to all hotels in Pacifica.

With heightened awareness about beach safety from locals and visitors alike, together we can continue to make Pacifica’s beaches safe and enjoyable for all.

As always, go safely this week and please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica!

Sincerely,
KEVIN WOODHOUSE
City Manager

The new bridge is better functioning than its predecessor, with a streamlined design that serves as a cheerful gateway to Pacifica.

Volunteers Needed!
Annual San Mateo County Bike & Ped Count
The National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation (NBPD) Project is a nationwide effort to provide data collection and ongoing data for use by planners, governments, and the general public. For 2019, the count period is September 10th - 15th. The County of San Mateo needs dedicated volunteers like you to help with the in-field data collection. This means that you get to be outside enjoying a couple of hours in the beautiful, mid-peninsula weather while recording those who walk and bike past. Each shift is two hours and you can indicate your location and time preferences. Please note that depending on the number of applications they receive for specific locations, they may not be able to accommodate your preferred count location. Register here to help in your area!
Pacifica Beach Coalition launches
Cigarette Butt Blitz
Pacifica Beach Coalition is launching their first ever Cigarette Butt Blitz with the goal of raising awareness about the toxins cigarette butts contain and their negative impact on our local environment. Cigarette butts are the #1 littered item in the world and last year the PBC picked up and recycled over 161,000 of them. This year they hope to increase that number but need your participation!

Collect cigarette butts in front of your home, your local super market, your work, or where you park your car and drop them off with the PBC anytime between now and Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday September 21st.
