Connect With Pacifica This Week

The recent mass-shooting tragedies in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton have all of us attempting to process, once again, our personal emotions and beliefs and figure out our personal and collective action moving forward to address the multifarious causes behind the continuing rise in these horrific acts. While this introspection and action occurs, the City, and specifically the Pacifica Police Department, has been taking and will continue to take action regarding preparing our first responders, as well as community members, for the potential of such active shooter incidents. This week my column in the Pacifica Tribune, jointly written with Police Chief Dan Steidle, summarizes the trainings the Pacifica Police Department undertakes, and the Active Shooter Response Training that is available to community members. I encourage you to sign up for one of these classes.

As always, go safely this week and please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica!

Ribbon Cutting!
Celebrate our new Pedestrian Overcrossing

On April 30 of this year Caltrans opened the new San Jose Avenue Pedestrian Overcrossing, which spans Highway 1 between the Eureka Square shopping center and San Jose Avenue. On August 28, to celebrate the conclusion of this project, Caltrans and the City of Pacifica are hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony. Come join us for this momentous occasion!

Event Details:
  • Date: Wednesday, August 28
  • Time: 11:00 am
  • Location: Parking lot on the corner of Salada Ave and Francisco Blvd.

This $3.5 million project began in mid-July 2018 and was paid for by CalTrans. It was begun to replace the previous bridge, built in 1968, which had been badly weathered and was non-compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The new bridge is better functioning than its predecessor, with a streamlined design that serves as a cheerful gateway to Pacifica.
