Greetings!
Due to state and county emergency proclamations related to wildfires, and emergency response safety concerns about coastside traffic in light of the southern San Mateo County wildfires and evacuations, I have issued an Emergency Proclamation for Pacifica and an Emergency Order for the closure of beaches and beach parking facilities for this weekend, from sunrise Saturday to sunrise Monday. A Press Release concerning the Beach Closure Order can be found here. It is unfortunate to have to close beaches under these circumstances, but it is critical to not interfere with unnecessary traffic impeding emergency first responders.
On Tuesday, August 25 6:00pm, City Council is holding a Special Meeting to discuss Policing in Pacifi ca. This meeting is a follow up to the first meeting on policing which was held in June, and we will present short and long-term actions recommended for policing in Pacifica. Follow this link for instructions to participate in the meeting. Follow this link to view the agenda.
The California Secretary of State has begun a California Census Challenge to help increase the response rates of each of California’s 482 cities and 58 counties. The goal of the challenge is for California to have a complete and accurate population count, ensuring accurate funding and representation for Californians over the next ten years. For cities with a population size of 5k – 50k residents, Pacifica’s response rate is currently ranked 20th in the State with an 80.8% response rate. This is great, but I know we can do better! Winners will be recognized by Secretary of State Padilla and members of the Legislature. If you haven’t yet, complete the Census here.
The City launched FlashVote, a new survey tool, to allow quick and statistically representative polling responses from the Pacifica community about important topics. Signing up just takes a moment and information provided is kept private. If you are interested and can spare 1-minute occasionally to respond to survey questions, please sign up at www.flashvote.com/pacifica. Everyone’s voice is critical to help inform important decisions that may be coming before the City Council. More information below.
Please let us know if you have comments or questions, and thank you for wanting to Connect with Pacifica.
Sincerely,
KEVIN WOODHOUSE
City Manager
