With quickly evolving information about current Coronavirus data, vaccination roll-out timing and procedures, changing California Department of Public Health guidelines, and more, there remains a lot of day-to-day uncertainty about what’s happening. It's not yet clear when everyone will receive vaccinations or when the County, including Pacifica, might be able to move to a better tier of reopening. Recognizing the frustrations and uneasiness in the community that can be caused by these uncertainties, the Pacifica City Council began discussing this week, and will continue at their next City Council meeting on January 25th, what additional methods of communicating information Councilmembers and the City may be able to pursue beyond the significant channels of communication already underway, but recognizing the City doesn’t decide or control much of this information and uncertainty. Stay tuned for more details following the next City Council meeting.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans Bay Area) will conduct its annual mandatory emergency response drill at the State Route 1 (SR-1) Tom Lantos (Devil’s Slide) Tunnels. The mandatory seven-hour emergency response drill begins Tuesday, January 26 at 9:00 PM and concludes on Wednesday, January 27 at 4:00 AM. The exercise is weather permitting.

For the safety of crews and the public, northbound and southbound traffic lanes on SR-1 through the Tom Lantos (Devil’s Slide) Tunnels will be closed during the exercise.

During the tunnel closures, the following detours between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay will be in effect. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be on scene to assist motorists:

The emergency management exercise will be a coordinated effort including the CHP, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, Pacifica Fire and Police Departments, California Office of Emergency Services, Cal-Fire and other first responders. This exercise will include fire simulations, crash simulations, and smoke.

"The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), in consultation with the Treasury Department, announced today that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) will re-open the week of January 11 for new borrowers and certain existing PPP borrowers.

To promote access to capital, initially only community financial institutions will be able to make First Draw PPP Loans on Monday, January 11, and Second Draw PPP Loans on Wednesday, January 13. The PPP will open to all participating lenders shortly thereafter. Updated PPP guidance outlining Program changes to enhance its effectiveness and accessibility was released on January 6 in accordance with the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Non-Profits, and Venues Act.

This round of the PPP continues to prioritize millions of Americans employed by small businesses by authorizing up to $284 billion toward job retention and certain other expenses through March 31, 2021, and by allowing certain existing PPP borrowers to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan."
