Greetings!
As many are aware, in January 2020 after many public meetings, the City Council enacted an ordinance which prohibits oversized vehicle (OSV) parking on approximately 95% of streets in the City based on specific traffic safety criteria. A list of the prohibited streets was attached to the ordinance. In March 2021 the ACLU, San Mateo County Legal Aid, and the Disability Rights Foundation brought a lawsuit against the City to overturn the OSV Ordinance. Last week, the Court ordered the City to make available on its website, at City Hall, and at the Pacifica Libraries a list and map of the already existing places where OSVs can safely park. Due to misinformation spreading on social media this week about this issue and the Court’s order, this Factsheet has been prepared to clarify the facts about this issue. This lawsuit is ongoing, and Pacifica continues to aggressively defend its right to regulate unsafe parking of OSVs. The City’s Webpage about OSVs contains much more information about this issue for your reference.
Note that the temporary relocation of the Civic Center from 170 Santa Maria Avenue to the Community Center at 540 Crespi Drive is underway. More information about the Civic Center Relocation Project, as well as the longer term Civic Center Campus Facilities Project is available here. Thank you in advance for your patience during this relocation. Civic Center staff anticipate being settled into the Community Center temporary offices by mid-August; of course City services, appointments, on-line services, and responses to phone and e-mail communications will continue during the transition, with our goal to minimize any delays in responsiveness.
Sincerely,
Kevin Woodhouse
City Manager

Oversized Vehicle Parking Lists and Map
|
|
The City of Pacifica has installed OSV (Oversized Vehicle) parking restriction signs throughout the City based on an engineering safety review, which determined where OSVs could park in the City without impacting the safety of roadway users. These signs are located at roadway entrances into the City, entrances to specific neighborhoods and along stretches of specific City roadway. Many streets where OSVs cannot park without impacting driver safety have sign restrictions in place; however, not every prohibited street has signage.

New ballot box installed at the
Community Center!
|
|
The City of Pacifica is excited to announce that, on July 8, 2021, a new external ballot drop box was installed at the entrance of the Pacifica Community Center at 540 Crespi Drive by the County of San Mateo Department of Public Works in coordination with the San Mateo County Elections Division and the City of Pacifica.
This will be in addition to the external ballot drop box located at Pacifica City Hall at 170 Santa Maria Avenue. The next election is scheduled for September 14, 2021 for the California Gubernatorial Recall Election. For this upcoming election, all Counties will mail every active registered voter a vote-by-mail ballot and packet beginning August 16, 2021. Ballot Drop Boxes will be opened to receive ballots for this election from August 17, 2021 through 8:00 PM on Election Day, September 14, 2021.
The two Pacifica ballot drop box locations are serviced directly by the San Mateo County Elections Office and offer a secure and convenient voting option to Pacifica residents.

Wildfire Preparedness - Know your Zone!
|
|
In the event of an emergency, first responders will use Zonehaven to plan and execute evacuations both large and small. They use access to real-time weather, traffic and fire information, and the ability to model traffic and fire spread scenarios. From Zonehaven, public safety officials will update the community with zone-specific information on the map including up-to-date evacuation status, live incident updates, and relevant resources such as shelter options.
Residents simply enter their address into an interactive map at community.zonehaven.com. The map was developed by Zonehaven showing all 300+ San Mateo County evacuation zones. Residents should record their zone number and review zone details before the next emergency to be better informed and able to quickly map their best path to safety. This should be part of everyone's wildfire preparedness plan as we approach another fire season. For additional preparedness resources visit the City of Pacifica Wildfire Preparedness webpage.
