I am so proud of Kitchen+Kocktails By Kevin Kelley.
I was celebrating Black Press Week in the nation’s capital, with the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) last week. What an exciting time. It was on March 16, 1827 when the first issue of Freedom’s Journal was published — the first African American owned and operated newspaper in this country. The owners were John Brown Russworm and Samuel Cornish.

Two more former Mississippi 'Goon Squad' deputies sentenced in torture of Black men |
By Debbie Elliott and Michael McEwen
JACKSON, Miss. — A Mississippi federal judge is sentencing additional former law enforcement officers to serve significant prison time in a disturbing brutality case in which the six white lawmen pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges for torturing two Black men last year.
They were part of a self-styled "Goon Squad" known locally for using violent and aggressive tactics in Rankin County, a suburb of Jackson, Miss.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Tom Lee sentenced former Rankin County sheriff's deputy Christian Dedmon to 40 years in federal prison, and ex-deputy Daniel Opdyke to 17.5 years for their roles in the racist attack on Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker during a no-warrant house raid.

DAILY REMEMBRANCE:
Looking through the rain with tears flowing down my face.
Comparing each drop of water sliding down with grace.
Realizing that each droplet and tear is a much needed release.
Showing that these small drops of water will bring much needed peace.
Then getting a glimpse of the red rose changed my feelings from sadness and despair.
And, it channeled my mind to observe something growing over there.
This noted change occurring before my eyes helped redirect my mind.
And, refocused my outlook and spirit to a better place and time.
