Give the Gift of Second Chances

It almost always begins with a phone call.

An alert neighbor notices horses looking too thin.

A new property owner discovers an abandoned herd.

A struggling owner calls, doing their best to do right by a horse in need.

They call us because they know what we do: we rescue horses.

At the Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF), every horse that walks into our barn deserves a second chance. It takes hard work, deep commitment, and the ability to make tough decisions. We can’t save them all, but every horse that comes to us receives our very best — a chance to heal, to trust again, and to thrive.

Every rescued horse requires a healthy diet, farrier and veterinary care, vaccinations, dental work, and often medication and rehabilitation. Our dedicated barn manager, barn staff, and volunteers ensure each horse receives individualized, daily attention and the care they need to rebuild their strength and spirit.

But rising expenses and limited financial resources are our greatest challenge.

We need your help.

This giving season, give the gift of second chances.

Your tax-deductible donation — whether one-time or monthly — helps horses on their journey from rescue to recovery, and, ultimately, to a loving adoptive home.

A Second Chance for Prince

Like so many of our rescues, Prince’s story began with a phone call.

He was a young, handsome Quarter Horse–Arabian cross — difficult to handle, sometimes aggressive, and isolated from other horses. He had bounced between homes and trainers, each trying to help, but his current owner could no longer care for him.

When Prince arrived at ERAF, he was undernourished, misunderstood, and labeled as dangerous. Our team soon discovered the real reason behind his behavior: he wasn’t actually a gelding, as reported, but a stallion suffering from cryptorchidism, a condition where one testicle remains undescended. Surgery was needed to correct the issue — and to give him a new beginning.

With proper medical treatment, patient handling, and consistent care, Prince began to transform. The tense, reactive horse we met became curious, playful, and eager to learn. He was finally ready to find his person.

Then along came Alexia.

From their very first meeting, it was clear they shared a special connection. Prince responded to her calm presence with trust and focus, and Alexia saw the partner he was meant to be.

It was a perfect match.

Prince found his person, and Alexia found her partner. Together, they’ve started a new chapter — one made possible because people like you believed in second chances.

Stories like Prince’s remind us why we do this work. With care, patience, and compassion, every horse has the potential to thrive — and sometimes, to find a little magic along the way.

This giving season, please help us continue answering the call.

Your support gives horses like Prince the second chance they deserve.
