A Story from Pastor David Potter

A young couple with young children in a congregation I served were in a car accident. The husband and wife were the only ones in the car. The young woman died in the accident and the young man was hospitalized and in a coma. There was no health care directive to guide caring family and friends in what to do for the young father or who should be caring for the children in this situation.

Having had something like a completed Five Wishes document, family, friends, pastor and congregation would have known the parents' intentions in a tragic and challenging time. Please consider completing one for yourself. Those you love and who care about you will benefit tremendously.

You can join tomorrow's presentation by using your computer, tablet, or smartphone OR you can call and participate by phone only. Visit http://www.zoom.us/join or call (929) 205-6099 or (301) 715-8592. When prompted, enter the Meeting ID 984 2219 9672 and the Passcode 3146.

Following the presentation, we will have the Five Wishes booklets (in English or Spanish) available at Drive-Up Communion on Sunday. If you're still staying close to home, please reply to this e-mail and let Cantor Kurt Schmidt know that you would like a booklet mailed to you.
"Well Done, Good and Faithful Servants"

As members of the body of Christ, we mourn the recent passing of three long-time saints of Zion: Harry Ambrose (August 2, 2020), Richard Zent (September 6, 2020, no picture available), and Mary Smith (September 6, 2020, pictured with her late husband Paul). All three will be inurned in our Memorial Garden with private services to be held at later dates.

In addition to keeping their families and friends in prayer, we hold fast to the promises made in baptism and know that Harry, Richard, and Mary are resting eternally in the arms of Jesus.
Inviting, Equipping, and Serving at Zion
We hope "God's Work, Our Hands" has been a meaningful and unique experience this year. If you have pictures, video, or written accounts of your service project that you'd like to submit to be included in our virtual celebration on September 20th, please e-mail them by this Monday, September 14th.
We have over 20 individuals who have committed to our community book study on Tuesdays, as well as the members of YEP who will engage in their own study on the same book. If you are passionate about antiracism, or simply want to learn more, join the conversation, beginning September 15th.

There's still room for you around the virtual discussion table!
Our annual Blessing of the Animals is less than a month away! Mark the date on your calendar and plan to be there. If you are willing to distribute flyers and posters to local pet-related and other businesses (we have a list), please reply to this e-mail newsletter and let Cantor Kurt Schmidt know that you are ready to volunteer!
