Illuminating West Philadelphia
LumiNature returns to the Philadelphia Zoo for another season of breathtaking sights, sounds, and surprises! In the Our Neck of the Woods exhibit, explore beautifully decorated trees created by students, families and neighborhood partners throughout West Philadelphia. This year, PEC was invited to participate and each community group chose a unique wildlife design to celebrate an animal for all to see.
PEC’s Tree theme is "Rising above them all... the giraffe.”
As the tallest mammal in the animal kingdom, the giraffe reaches lofty heights, sometimes as high as 18 feet. Thus, giraffes are symbols of aspiration! The giraffe’s spirit inspires us to reach for the highest branch. At PEC, we believe that, with hope, we all have the capacity to go further and higher than you ever thought possible. PEC’s tree was decorated by community members and PEC Staff!
Don’t forget to VOTE for the PEC Tree (#6) through January 1st!

Mayoral Candidate Allan Domb Visits Lancaster Avenue Businesses
On November 11th, Philadelphia mayoral candidate, Allen Domb toured the Lancaster Avenue with Corridor Manager, Dante Leonard. The tour began with a meeting at Plush Events, 4087 Lancaster Avenue. In attendance were owners from La Pearl Beauty Emporium, Kanvas Event Center, Kevyn Michael Boutique, MMPartners LLC, Mr. Dump Truck, BQ Lancaster Ave and Unity Kids.
The conversation was very engaging discussing overarching themes surrounding safety, blight, gentrification and overall capacity building for businesses. Domb agreed to come back for more engagement in the future, and about the possibility of creating something like the Center City District in this neighborhood as a pilot program, if elected. He also said that he would be more than willing to attend another convening of businesses and other mayoral candidates on the corridor in the future.
