Greetings!
With the recent increasing rate of positive COVID cases due to the Delta variant, and the return to school this week, it is important to continue to follow health guidelines for face coverings, get vaccinated if you aren’t already, and to even get tested more regularly. In July it seemed like we were coming out of the woods, now it seems the trail has switch backed into the woods. We’ll get through this; we all need to do our part.
San Mateo County has announced a new round of relief grants to small businesses. At the City Council’s upcoming meeting on Monday, August 23, the Council will consider augmenting this program with $150,000 of Pacifica’s American Rescue Plan Act funds to expand assistance from 12 to up to 27 Pacifica businesses. If you know a business that could use help, and has not previously received grant assistance, please pass along this information.
A new beautiful public-space mural will be unveiled this weekend, “Splash of Color” at 1300 Oceana Blvd. Thanks to the artists Lauren Wu and Annaliese Phillips, students at Design Tech High School, and the Mural Subcommittee of the City’s Beautification Advisory Committee, for helping to beautify Pacifica! There will be an unveiling ceremony 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21, at the site if you are interested in stopping by.
Enjoy your weekend!
Sincerely,
Kevin Woodhouse
City Manager

Environmental Justice in San Mateo County -
A Panel Discussion with Community Leaders
|
|
This panel discussion will bring together an amazing group of people who work daily on issues of environmental and racial justice in San Mateo County:
Each panelist will present briefly on their work, and then engage in discussion to clarify the interrelatedness of social, racial, and environmental justice; bring attention to local issues of environmental racism; highlight local environmental justice work; and identify key areas for action and change.
After attending this discussion, it is our hope that you will be more familiar with environmental racism issues here in San Mateo County, the root causes of these issues, and the critical work local community leaders are doing to address them. We hope that you will also leave with a clearer understanding of how social and environmental issues are interrelated; have ideas of how you can participate in bringing about positive social change; and have a sense of the broader policy and societal changes community leaders envision that can address these inequities.
We hope that you can join us for this important conversation!

Please Remember to License Your Dogs
|
|
License, please! Dog licensing is required in all cities, towns and unincorporated areas of San Mateo County. The process may be completed online, through the mail, or at three locations in the County.
The best protection for your pets is licensing and vaccinating against rabies. Licensing your pets is the quickest way to be reunited if they get lost or injured. The County maintains a tracking system of licensed animals in case of a bite or rabies exposure.
Licensing also increases the likelihood of finding an aggressive animal or an animal that has been exposed to rabies, and that helps to reduce the number of people who must receive the post-exposure rabies vaccine after a bite.
Licensing is easy and affordable and the fees also help provide shelter, food, and emergency medical care for lost pets.
For more information use the link below and visit the animal licensing webpage.

Please Dechlorinate Your Pools Before Draining
|
|
Water from swimming pools and spas often contain high levels of chlorine. Discharging chlorinated pool or spa water into streams, (or irrigation canals, ponds, etc.) is harmful to fish and other aquatic life. It is illegal to send chlorinated water from pools and spas into the sanitary sewer or storm drain system. The chlorinated water must be dechlorinated before sending it to the sanitary sewer system. It is also important to notify your local wastewater service provider and receive authorization before discharge.
Read more information on proper disposal of chlorinated water from pools and spas.

Oversized Vehicle Parking Lists and Map
|
|
The City of Pacifica has installed OSV (Oversized Vehicle) parking restriction signs throughout the City based on an engineering safety review, which determined where OSVs could park in the City without impacting the safety of roadway users. These signs are located at roadway entrances into the City, entrances to specific neighborhoods and along stretches of specific City roadway. Many streets where OSVs cannot park without impacting driver safety have sign restrictions in place; however, not every prohibited street has signage.
