Coming 2022:
Lucille & Bruce Terwilliger Place
APAH is thrilled to celebrate the financial closing and construction start of Lucille & Bruce Terwilliger Place. All of us wish we could have gathered in person to break ground on this exciting project. Since that is not possible, we send this message to share next steps and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has joined us on this journey.

Once completed in 2022, Terwilliger Place will provide 160 affordable apartments in Arlington as well as a new, modern 6,000-square-foot facility for American Legion Post 139. The collaboration between APAH and Post 139 provides a groundbreaking model for mission-driven veteran organizations to provide critical housing, facilities, and programs to support the needs of younger veterans and to assure their own organization’s financial sustainability.

Veterans will be given priority placement in half of the building’s 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units. In addition to critically needed affordable housing, Terwilliger Place will provide veteran-focused programming in its private counseling spaces, community activity rooms, and a computer lab. The property will serve households earning from 30% up to 80% of Area Median Income (AMI). You can find more details about the project in our press release .

With closing behind us, construction begins. We look forward to marking future project milestones with you in person. Until then, our deepest thanks to each of you.

This project would not have been possible without these generous contributions to our Uniting to Serve campaign.

Retiring of the Flag
On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, the American Legion Post 139 held a small ceremony to retire the flag.

Taking safety precautions, including face masks, hand sanitizer, and social distancing, the flag was lowered for a final time ahead of construction.

The flag will be presented to the Terwilliger family.
