Greetings!
The second half of the Fiscal Year for the City is in full swing, with progress being made on many important priorities. At the upcoming City Council meeting on Monday, 2/14 (Valentine’s Day!), the Council will discuss important items such as consideration of granting an extension to the public comment period on the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the General Plan Update and the Sharp Park Specific Plan, a Flavored Tobacco Prohibition Ordinance, an update to construction impact fees to support parks facilities, and the Vision 2025 & Beyond Strategic Financial Sustainability Study.
Then at a Special Meeting on Tuesday, 2/15, the Council will consider information about Wastewater capital and operations projections for the next ten years and wastewater rates for the next five years.
Also, the state and County have announced upcoming changes to the mask mandates. Omicron variant case rates have improved recently but remain a reality we are all living with, so please continue to follow appropriate guidelines, vaccination and booster recommendations, and testing as necessary. And stay safe as you enjoy the wintertime spring weather we are experiencing!
Sincerely,
Kevin Woodhouse
City Manager

Be Prepared For an Earthquake or Tsunami
|
|
The western coastline of the United States was under a Tsunami Advisory following a volcanic eruption in the Tonga Islands earlier this year. According to NOAA, this was a rare event; with only about 5% of tsunamis generated by volcanic activity. Do you know how tsunamis are generated? Do you know what to do when a Tsunami Watch or Tsunami Warning is issued?
The Pacifica Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is presenting this 90-minute Earthquake and Tsunami Preparedness Course via Zoom on Thursday, February 17 at 7 PM. Please register here. The link for this course will be sent to you with your confirmation email.

Be Aware of Mountain Lions
|
|
Pacifica is part of Mountain Lion Country. In recent weeks the police department received several reports of mountain lion sightings. Most recently in the Linda Mar area on Tuesday night around 9:15 PM included a sighting near Capistrano Drive and Perez Drive, and on Monday night around 11:30 PM, a sighting was reported near Valdez Way and Ventura Court. We encourage residents to always be aware of their surroundings and to watch over their pets and children.
Pacifica is bordered by parks and open spaces that are home to all kinds of wildlife including mountain lions. We should familiarize ourselves with information and safety tips about living in mountain lion country. Should you be outside and come into contact with a mountain lion, the California Department of Fish & Wildlife provides the following tips:
- Mountain lions are quiet, solitary and elusive, and typically avoid people.
- Mountain lion attacks on humans are extremely rare.
- Do not hike, bike, or jog alone.
- Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active – dawn, dusk, night.
- Keep a close watch on small children.
- Do not approach a mountain lion.
- If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects. Pick up small children.
- If attacked, fight back.
Report a mountain lion displaying aggressive behavior to the police department at (650) 738-7314 or to the regional offices of the Department of Fish & Wildlife (DFW) at (707) 428-2002.

Redistricting Process
Public Hearing on February 14
|
|
The City of Pacifica wants your input on the City Council Districts based on 2020 Census data. On December 17, 2018, the City adopted an ordinance establishing a district-based system for the election of members of the Pacifica City Council by five districts.
Every ten years after the federal census is complete, district lines must be reviewed and, if necessary, adjusted to keep the boundaries as nearly equal in population as possible, allowing for certain variances due to geography, topography, communities of interest, etc. This process of reviewing the census data and adjusting the district boundary lines is called Redistricting.
The City wants your input on how you would like to draw your district lines. The second Public Hearing in the redistricting process will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 7:30 PM during the regular City Council meeting held via Zoom ( https://zoom.us/j/99091160676) to consider the draft district maps. Submit written public comments to publiccomment@pacifica.gov or comment live during the public hearing on Zoom.
Information on the redistricting process is available at here.
