A Message From Incoming Chair, Carina Perez Europa

I want to begin by saying thank you to each and every one of you for your faith in electing me Chair of Marion County Democrats.

I want to take a moment to thank our outgoing chair Evan Sorce for his commitment and hard work in the last two years. Under his leadership, and with your hard work, we have accomplished a lot during these difficult times. We have grown our membership, moved offices, increased the voter turnout in our county and elected great democratic leaders to represent our communities.

It is an honor to continue to build on that work as we look towards the next two years.

As your newly elected Chair I will work to create a robust outreach program to reach communities that we haven’t been able to reach before, including younger demographics, communities of color, rural communities and Democrats that have been inactive thus far. I will build relationships to work together with different coalition groups in our area to help elect candidates for office.

Of course we will continue to grow our Neighborhood Leader program, which has been a great success. I want to create the infrastructure necessary to create candidate training to provide resources to those who may one day wish to run for office in our county. I want to create an internship program to give the opportunity to learn the tools necessary to successfully run campaigns with great organizers.

These are just some of the things we will work on together but there is still much work to be done to ensure that our party is able to achieve its full potential. It is an honor to serve as your Chair for the next two years and an inspiration to help facilitate the work that PCPs do every year to support democratic causes and candidates throughout Marion County.

I will work hard everyday to make sure that we have the tools necessary to meet that potential. Again thank you for your support and your faith in me, now let’s get to work.

A Message From Outgoing Chair,
Evan Sorce

As my term as Chair of the Marion County Democrats comes to an end, I want to take a moment to thank each one of you.

Thank you for the faith you put in me over the last two years and thank you for all you have done to move our party and our community forward.

In the previous two years, we faced several challenges: the collapse of our long-time office roof, our long effort to find a space that fit us, our move, and finally, the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout these challenges, you have all rise to the occasion and meet them.

We had a fundraiser that raised over $30,000. For the first time in recent memory, we hosted numerous debates watch parties, ensuring that people in our community who wanted to had the ability to learn where our candidates stood. We have grown our PCP membership to well over 150 PCPs.

Finally, we have dramatically increased our Neighborhood Leader to 323 neighborhood leaders across the county. In the 2020 general election, our neighborhood leaders reached out to 24,371 voters, and areas with neighborhood leaders had an 89.7% turnout, which is 11% higher than the county turnout.

Anyway, it has been a wild ride, and I look forward to working with our new leadership to see what we can do to continue the work to make Marion County a more fair and equitable place.
