Dear Friend,

Thanks for taking a moment out of your day to find out about all the amazing things happening with Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas in March! As we celebrate our Volunteers of America's 125th anniversary we continue to follow in the footsteps of our founders Maud and Ballington Booth by serving those most vulnerable.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is one of the best ways to stop the spread of this catastrophic virus. As these vaccines become more widely available, there are many reasons for getting vaccinated, whether it’s to protect your friends and family, get people back to work and school, or most importantly, to save lives. As a Christian church without walls that strives to support and empower some of the most vulnerable populations in our communities, it is important that we do all that we can to protect the lives of the individuals and families the Lord has called us to serve.
VOACC President & CEO, Russ Snyder
Since late January, our VOA Hope Center in Maryland has been busy helping vulnerable individuals living in our long-term care facilities and staff get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Prince George's County.

Through a partnership with Walgreens and CVS, we are proud of the fact that we have fully vaccinated 60 staff and clients and have administered the first shot to another 170 through three recent clinics.

With a third clinic planned, the VOA Hope Center can now add COVID-19 vaccination clinic to our list of services, including providing the necessary support and treatment for those living with behavioral health illnesses, substance use disorders, and chronic medical conditions.
"We are encouraging all of our staff to join our organization-wide movement to build trust, counter disinformation, and protect our communities."
- Russell Snyder, VOACC President & CEO
The Capital Group (TCG), is one of our outstanding insurance vendors who has consistently gone above and beyond to support our mission.

For the past couple of years, TCG Senior Partner and Practice Leader for Nonprofits Joseph Apa and TCG Senior Associate Patrick Durbin have been actively involved in our fundraising efforts. In addition to TCG providing us campaign sponsorships, Joe and Pat have played an integral role in the design and execution of some of our major fundraising campaigns.

At a time when many nonprofits were scrambling to figure out how to host virtual fundraisers in light of COVID-19, Joe and Pat presented us with the ingenious idea of offering virtual wine tastings and mixology nights, a concept that had worked well for their own clientele, as part of our fall fundraiser Harvest for Hope.

With their support, we hosted five incredibly fun wine tastings and mixology nights that helped us raise over $80,000 for Harvest for Hope last year.

"The Capital Group has worked with VOACC for the past several years and it has been quite an honor. We learned of their mission and immediately decided this was an organization worth supporting."
– Joseph Apa, TCG Senior Partner and
Practice Leader for Nonprofits

"We have learned that when working for such a worthy organization such as VOACC, you always walk away with so much more than you give. We look forward to continuing to support them during these unprecedented times and in the future."
– Patrick Durbin, TCG Senior Associate

24 HOURS OF GIVING, 365 DAYS OF IMPACT
Give Choose is a 24-hour day of giving organized by the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, which is located in our Virginia region. The goal of this one-day fundraiser is to benefit local charities serving Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties.

This year, Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is proud to be part of this online fundraiser with donations from supporters like you going toward our Loudoun Homeless Services Center.

The goal of Give Choose is to inspire individuals to come together and give generously to charities that help make a better life for those that need it most, especially as our battle with COVID-19 wages on.

Due to the pandemic, many low-income individuals and families across Loudoun County are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless now more than ever. Those living at the margins of society have been the hardest hit by rising unemployment rates in the county and are at the greatest risk of becoming homeless. Since 1991, we have operated the Loudoun Homeless Services Center in partnership with the Loudoun County Department of Family Services using a whole-person approach to help vulnerable individuals and families obtain and maintain their housing and independence.

Whether you live in Loudoun County or are passionate about ensuring the less fortunate have a safe place to call home, you can make a difference by supporting the Loudoun Homeless Services Center through Give Choose. And you don’t have to wait until March 16th to give! Early giving starts on March 2nd. To learn more about Give Choose and the Loudoun Homeless Services Center visit www.givechoose.org/lhsc.

VOICE of Faith is our largest annual fundraiser in support of our health and human services programs that empower Maryland's most underserved communities.

“VOICE of Faith” refers to the core values we as an organization embody in our work – Visionary, One Body, Integrity, Compassion, Excellence and Faith.

For the past 20 years, Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas has been working to address widespread homelessness and unemployment in vulnerable communities in the region through the provision of affordable, program-enriched housing and workforce development programming for the homeless, elderly, disabled, veterans and returning citizens.

This year's virtual fundraiser will be held from June 3rd through the 17th and will include wine tasting, trivia, and a livestream event.

When Maud and her husband Ballington founded Volunteers of America in 1896, they envisioned a movement that would reach and uplift all people. A pioneer in women's rights, nonprofit leadership, and prison reform, Maud serves as an example and reminder of the positive influence one individual can have on millions of others.

In honor of Maud's dedication and commitment to serving those most in need, we invite you to join the Maud Squad, our brand-new monthly giving program. As a member of the Maud Squad, you will ensure that Maud’s work continues today and for another 125+ years through those who carry it.

In addition to changing lives all year long through your commitment, you will get a special bi-annually e-newsletter highlighting our women leaders, consumers, and programs through the lens of Maud’s life. To learn more and join the Maud Squad, click the button below.
