Cloister Fundraiser
Sunday, October 13th
5:00 PM
The Reisberg Home
| | Nearly a century ago in November 1924, the members of the Lake of the Isles Community Church gathered for the laying of the cornerstone of their new home. The former Lowry Hill Congregational Church, which had been built in 1900, had been destroyed in a fire. Shortly afterward, having purchased a parcel of land along Lake of the Isles Boulevard, the congregation was prepared to write a new chapter in a new location. They commissioned the architectural firm of Hewitt & Brown, who had created the monumental, neighborhood landmarks of the Northwestern National Life Insurance Office Building, Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church and St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, to design their new sanctuary. Over the next 5 years, the church would take on its now familiar and recognizable form. Stoically, the gothic arches of the cherished cloister were the first to be erected. For nearly 100 years, this beloved space has been the backdrop and frame for wedding and family photos. | Unfortunately, after a century of Minnesota winters, the stone floor of the cloister is in desperate need of repair. That is the focus of our annual fall fundraiser. |
On Sunday, October 13th, Bernie and Michelle Reisberg will once again open their home for a buffet dinner and silent auction, and Michelle McCreery will prepare an exquisite, delicious meal. A $20 contribution per person will cover the cost of the meal for the event. If you would like to offer a silent auction item, please contact Diane LaMere with the details. The deadline for auction items and dinner rsvp is Wednesday, October 9. We hope to see you there!

Service of Healing
October 20th
9:30 AM
Sanctuary
The Sunday nearest to October 22nd, the Festival Day for Saint Luke is often marked as a day for special services for healing. Saint Luke is often referred to in scripture as the Great Physician and in medieval times he was the patron saint of doctors and surgeons. According to the Book of Acts he travelled with St. Paul on his missionary journeys and may have attended to his medical needs. You’ll find Saint Luke’s image in the balcony window with his traditional symbol of the ox. Numerous hospitals across the United States are named after Saint Luke.
The Service for Prayer and Healing will be a part of the Prayers of the Church and anointing of oil will occur during Holy Communion.

The Linden Hills Chamber Orchestra began in 1980 through efforts of Linden Hills area residents in conjunction with Minneapolis Public Schools Community Education. Now in its 42nd season, the adult volunteer orchestra has grown to some 50 musicians from the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The LHCO performs a variety of classical music in concert halls, neighborhood churches, and parks, as well as in residential care facilities in Minnesota.
Under the direction of Conductor and Music Director, Yuri Ivan, the orchestra presents free public concerts and outdoor, bandshell concerts in May/June.
The orchestra is dedicated to making great music accessible through concerts that are free and open to the public, and also through outreach concerts where we perform at local retirement communities.

Confirmation Sunday
October 27th
In many Lutheran churches the Confirmation Worship Service is known as the Affirmation of Baptism. The name recalls the promises that were made by the parents and godparents at the time of a child’s baptism. They vowed that the Christian faith would be the child’s one day, and that they would speak on behalf of the child until that day comes. The Rite of Affirmation is that coming of age for the young adult. It is also a day for a renewal of the faith through the laying on of hands and the giving of the Holy Spirit. On Reformation Sunday, October 27th, we will celebrate confirmation for Archer Hammitt, Travis Haverty, and Ella Sarles.
