"The Church of the Open Door"

Knowing that all community is a gift of God,

we affirm there can be no exclusiveness about the body of Christ.

We welcome into our community and membership all people of God, regardless of ethnic heritage, national origin, age, gender,

marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing;

and we encourage the full participation of all

in the life of our congregation.

Pastor's Page

I left my house yesterday morning to catch the train into the city for my last shift as a chaplain at Weill Cornell. I was running late, it was 4:58am and I was a little grumpy. As I opened the car door, I looked up and caught a glimpse of the moon and the brightest stars dazzling like twinkling lights in the early morning sky and yelled an expletive of adoration out into the universe.

Taking time out to stop and notice where we are or even just to pause is hard. There's always something else to do and places to get to and seemingly never enough time to do it in.

This Sunday will be a busy one. In addition to our regular Sunday morning, we will be having an installation service to make our relationship official! The PC(USA)'s Book of Order (our denomination's guiding document) says of installations, "the service of ... installation shall focus upon Christ and the joy and responsibility of serving him through the mission and ministry of the church." It is with the deepest joy that we get to officially mark the occasion of me being your pastor and you all being my people. In a world that's really hard, having the opportunity to set aside time to celebrate what God is doing in our lives and the life of THIS church is a blessing and an extreme privilege. You all will get to meet my friends, former colleagues, students and family and people that have known me since I was a tiny human! The music will be great, the preaching will be fabulous. The color of the day is red (think Pentecost/Holy Spirit) and sparkles and glitter if you have it laying around! And stick around after for a small reception and bagpipes!

I am grateful to God for you all,

-Ekama
