"The Church of the Open Door"

Knowing that all community is a gift of God,

we affirm there can be no exclusiveness about the body of Christ.

We welcome into our community and membership all people of God, regardless of ethnic heritage, national origin, age, gender,

marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing;

and we encourage the full participation of all

in the life of our congregation.

Adopted by the session, March 9, 1995

If you have clocks that need re-setting, be sure to do it Saturday night before going to bed!

Pastor's Page

Since I didn’t have a Pastor’s page last week just wanted to reiterate in writing a huge word of gratitude to you all for what I hope was a really lovely installation service. My family, in particular, was so delighted to meet you all and begin to put faces to the names of my “Cold Spring stories,” and see this cute and quirky little place where I am building a new home (and work) life. I am very much aware of how rare it is to get to plan a worship service that kinda felt like a retrospective of both life and work. It was so special to me to get to share stories of the many people and places that have shaped me. A deep joy and a privilege. SHOUT OUT TO THE DEACONS FOR ALL THE WORK AND TIME AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL!

Now that we’re OFFICIAL, I do feel like I’m beginning to get into something kinda like a swing of things. This week is no difference and Sunday morning will be a packed one. It’s the first Sunday of the month so we’ll celebrate the feast of the Lord’s Supper with one another. We’ll also take some time to remember the saints of our community who have joined the church triumphant over this last year. AND the clocks go back on Sunday morning. Luckily we’re super digital these days and it happens automatically, but if you do have any analog clocks and watches, don’t forget to wind them back before bed unless you want to be really early to church on Sunday.

After worship, the team of folks who expressed interest in being a part of the team to receive coaching for the salary support program will meet for the first time. Pray for them as they dream and work on the sustainability of this community. They will be commissioned in worship in the next few weeks.

Finally, just as a note, I’m testing out having office hours! On Tuesdays from 1:30-4pm and Wednesdays from 10am-12:30pm I’m planning on working in the church office and am trying to not have anything scheduled and to be available for chats and meetings and whatever else you may need. But also, if you want to hang or need anything from me outside of those times, please just text or email me (I’m chronically always on my phone) and I am flexible. I will observe my personal sabbath on Mondays.

There’s a lot happening in the world and in our lives. I think, at least for me, it feels manageable. As we move into a weekend where our days get shorter and we open up our night to the remembrance of the saints that have come before us, I move in gratitude for not walking these days alone.

Midnight Run Report

Here’s a photo from the Run last night. It shows a statue of Jesus where people sometimes leave items to share in the outstretched hand, Nothing there last night. The man sleeping next to the statue has been there for years. He rarely takes supplies, and often seems gruff, but when he finally smiles (maybe once?), it’s a very warm smile. The traffic cone in front of him seems designed to keep people away...
