Dear Friend of Groceries for Seniors,
While we celebrate remarkable 25th anniversary achievements this year – a new delivery van, updated refrigeration capacity, and continued service to 1,200 seniors weekly – we now face two immediate threats to our mission.
The Protein Gap: A Nutrition Emergency
Recent state and city funding changes have severely reduced the protein sources we receive. We've been using our financial reserves to purchase these "main course" proteins because we refuse to let our seniors go without complete nutrition.
Our Community Hub at Risk
For 25 years, Old Saint Mary's Cathedral has provided the space where our neighbor-helping-neighbor magic happens. Four days per week, +100 volunteers gather here to pack groceries for their homebound peers. Critical building maintenance is now required to keep this space operational.
Why This Matters
The seniors we serve are longtime San Francisco residents who helped build this city. Many live alone, are homebound, and depend entirely on our weekly deliveries. When government programs scale back, grassroots organizations like ours become the only safety net.
Your dollars work differently here. With minimal overhead, your gift directly:
- Purchases the proteins that complete nutritious meals
- Maintains the vital space where our community serves its most vulnerable
- Ensures 25 more years of uninterrupted weekly deliveries
Will you help us address these urgent needs before year-end? In uncertain times, your gift creates the certainty our seniors desperately need.
With heartfelt appreciation,
