GPLHS Monthly Update
April 2021
Prayer for Great Plains Lutheran High School
Lord Jesus, you are the Way and the Truth and the Life. May the peace, joy, and confidence that come through your Easter victory move us to support Great Plains Lutheran High School and every effort to proclaim the power of your resurrection. Work in the hearts of our youth that they may be at peace in your grace, rejoice in knowing they are your redeemed children, and confidently serve by seizing opportunities to offer words and actions of love toward you and their neighbor. Bless us as we strive to do all things to your glory. Amen.

Call News
We thank the Lord and are pleased to announce that Mr. Jeff Roloff has accepted the call to serve as our next Director of Mission Advancement. Many of you know Mr. Roloff from his years in our district, serving at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Sioux Falls (1998-2007) and at GPLHS (2007-2016).
Jeff and his wife, Sarah, are currently serving at St. Jacobi Lutheran School in Greenfield, WI, and are planning a move to Watertown this summer. Jeff will begin serving GPL in July.
Wish List Item- Science Equipment
For this month, we have some items to enhance our science curriculum. Gifts totaling $150 will pay for a Newton’s Cradle and a Magnetic Field Observation Box. The items on this list are special extra budgetary items. Please mark donations to these item as ‘Science Wish List’ to avoid confusion between this opportunity and the Finishing Touches campaign currently taking place. Thank you! You can contribute online by clicking HERE and designating your gift to "Wish List - Science Equipment" or by calling the office and talking with Mrs. Hesford, our new business manager.
2021-2022 School Registration
Applications for new students for the 2021-2022 school year are now being accepted online. Find the information you need at www.gplhs.org/admissions. Please share this information with anyone who might be interested and encourage them to find out more.
Track and Golf Seasons Begin
Track practice began March 8. The first track meet of the year will be April 13th at Chester High School. The first golf match will be April 9th at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. Since spring weather is so unpredictable, there will likely be adjustments to both track and golf schedules. Please check our website frequently (gplhs.org) for up-to-date competition dates and locations.
Panther Field Day
Each spring the GPLHS family welcomes area grade school students to campus for Panther Field Day. This year Panther Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 7. Area Lutheran elementary schools often participate, but the day of fresh air, fun, fellowship, and friendly competition isn’t just for students at these schools. All grade school students (and parents) are invited to attend. The activities begin about 9:30am and wrap up around 2:00pm. To get more information, or to let us know you are coming, please call 605-886-0672. Lunch will be available to purchase that day as part of the Junior class fundraiser. Join us for a great day of celebrating the gifts God has given our schools and students!
Auxiliary Delegate Meetings
The spring Delegate and Auxiliary meetings will be held at GPL on Saturday, May 1. Both groups will begin their meetings in the gymnasium with devotion at 10 AM. Delegates are selected by association congregations. Anyone interested in supporting the ministry of GPLHS is invited to attend the Auxiliary meeting.
Panther Camp
Panther Camp will take place this summer with the following COVID adjustments. This year we will be accepting applications for students entering grades 8 and 9 in the 2021-2022 school year. The camp will be slightly shortened, beginning Wednesday evening, June 9, and concluding by noon on Saturday, June 12. You can find registration information HERE.
Camp Luther
We want to share that Camp Luther will not take place this summer. The camp is conducted at Sibley State park in MN. The state parks system in MN has not opened up their group centers so we are unable to hold camp this year. A variety of options are being pursued so that we can have Camp Luther next year.
Anniversary Celebration Postponed
We wrapped up our last anniversary event for this year with the grade school basketball tournament in March.

With the ultimate goal of celebrating the ministry of GPLHS to God’s glory with all who would like to attend, the GPL25 committee has decided ... READ MORE
New way to Register for the GPL Golf Open
With the warmer weather our thoughts turn towards summer and for GPL that means it is time to prepare for the annual Golf Open. This year registration and payment for the open can now be done online using the bidpal platform that we have utilized this year for Fall Festival and our Finishing Touches campaign. You will find all the information you need and be able to register at this link.
Facility Expansion Update
Work on the roof of the chapel/auditorium has been completed. Next the crew will work on the structural steel linking the auditorium to the current school building. For the kitchen/commons, structural steel has been completed; steel studs and metal decking are up next. Site work to prepare for construction of the auxiliary gym will begin when the frost is out of the ground and conditions are dry enough for the work to begin.

There are many progress photos on social media. Check out facebook.com/GPLHS or look for #BuildingGPL.

United in Praise Capital Campaign
Our current campaign focus is on Finishing Touches, our effort to provide the furnishings and equipment for the areas currently under construction, and Bridging the Gap, our effort to reduce the amount that will need to be financed to complete these areas. A number of the Finishing Touches wish list items have been fully or partially funded. With a variety of items remaining, some of them on the larger side, every gift is greatly appreciated. You can check out the progress of the Finishing Touches campaign at: bidpal.net/finishingtouches.
Financial Update.................................. As of March 30, 2021
As we enter the final quarter of the school year and fiscal year, and as we await the arrival of our new Director of Mission Advancement, maintaining a solid financial position is as important as ever. As God gives you the resources and desire, we invite the operating support that will provide the financial stability that enables us to nurture our teens as lifelong disciples of Christ at this critical point in their lives. These Active Ministry gifts will also serve us well as we wait for and welcome our new Director of Mission Advancement. In addition to your financial support, your prayers and encouraging words are always meaningful and appreciated. Active Ministry gift given HERE.
