GPLHS Monthly Update
September 2020
Prayer for Great Plains Lutheran High School
Dear Father in heaven, we ask that you continue to bless Great Plains Lutheran High School. Be with the teachers and students as they become fully engaged in their academic courses. Guide especially the students who are new to high school or new to GPLHS. Bless the Board of Directors as they meet this month and work together to guide this ministry. Let your hand of blessing be upon the faculty, staff, and students, keeping them healthy and safe. May all that is done, including many co-curricular activities, resound to your glory.
Opening Service and Installation
The Opening Service for the 2020-2021 school year was held on Monday, August 24, at 7:50 a.m. in the GPLHS gymnasium. The service included the installation of Rebecca Doering and Carina Rahn. With this worship service, Great Plains Lutheran High School began its 25th year of serving students and families from our region and around the world. If you missed the live stream broadcast of the service you can watch the video here: Opening Service
Virtual Grandparents Day - September 25th!
Each fall we look forward to welcoming grandparents to campus; it has become one of the highlights of our year, and an event we don’t want to give up! This year, rather than gathering on campus, we are planning a virtual event which will give students the opportunity to connect with their grandparents by phone or video, and give grandparents a glimpse of life at GPL. While we will miss the face-to-face interaction, we also hope this format will make it possible for even more grandparents to participate and connect with their grandchildren and GPLHS.
COVID Considerations for Event Spectators
Fall activities at Great Plains Lutheran will be open. For home contests in the school building, spectators are asked to wear face coverings. For outdoor home events, spectators are asked to do their best to socially distance. Masks may be worn, but are not required outdoors. Schools have the ability to limit attendance at events if the COVID-19 situation calls for it. We encourage spectators to regularly click the “COVID Spectator Policy” link at gplhs.org for event status information.
Fall Festival - We've Got Big News
This year's Fall Festival will be held Saturday, November 14 from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the GPLHS gymnasium. This year we will be celebrating 25 years of ministry and we will be launching our new mobile bidding platform. COVID permitting, we will still meet in person but we have eliminated the need for paper and pencil bids. You can sign in and bid on items on your own smartphone or be assisted by our volunteer bid clerks at convenient stations around the auction. This means that EVERYONE can participate in Fall Festival even if you are not able to join us in person. Please look for more details on how to participate in the near future.
GPL25 Gear- order by September 18!
This year GPLHS is celebrating 25 years of ministry all to the glory of God. You can join us in celebrating with some limited edition GPL25 items. Click the link below. You will be able to order from this store until September 18. Payment by credit card is required at the time of purchase. These items will be available for pick up at GPLHS by October 9th. Celebrate with us all year!

Future Panther Passes
Annual event passes are available at no cost for all children through grade 8. Future Panther Passes can be obtained at the admission table when children attend their first GPLHS event. Remember to bring the pass to each GPL event attended to be punched. A prize will be earned at 8, 16 and 24 punches.
Wish List Item
The dorm mattresses and new document shredder have both been purchased. Thank you!! As we begin this school year we would like to purchase a document camera. This technology is timely as it allows the flexibility for visuals during presentations both in the classroom and online for distance learning should the need arise. $265 would purchase this instrument. Your gift will help to have this technology in place at the beginning of this school year. Click below and designate your gift to "Wish List- Document Cam" or call 605-886-0672 and ask for Liz.

Activity Passes
Activity passes will once again be available for GPLHS events. You receive convenience and cost savings with the 20 event pass ($70) or the 10 event pass ($40). Stop in or ask to sign up for an activity pass when you attend your first event! In addition, this year each family with a student currently enrolled at GPL will receive a 20 punch activity pass free of charge. If you did not pick up the pass on opening weekend please stop by the office for yours.
United in Praise Building Progress
Since we broke ground on July 25, we have been eagerly awaiting the initial steps in the construction of our chapel, auditorium, music room, and kitchen/cafeteria link. With the confirmation of material delivery, the construction process can begin! Site work and excavation began the last week of August, and setting footings and foundation walls will begin the first week of September. While much of the initial work will be at or below ground level, you should see construction going up by mid- November.
Mission Advancement Thoughts
“All to the glory of God!” This is the theme for our 2020-21 school year. What an appropriate theme it is. God surely deserves all our glory as he is the One who has given us our existence, salvation, new life in Christ, heaven, and everything else we have.
