September Monthly Update 2022
Prayer for Great Plains Lutheran High School
Dear Father in heaven, we ask that you continue to bless Great Plains Lutheran High School. Be with the teachers and students as they become fully engaged in their academic courses. Guide especially the students who are new to high school or new to GPLHS. Bless the Board of Directors as they meet this month and work together to guide this ministry. Let your hand of blessing be upon the faculty, staff, and students, keeping them healthy and safe. In all we do, enable us to be courageous in Christ our Savior. Amen.
2022-2023 School Year Theme
The theme for our school year and chapel devotions at GPLHS this year is Courageous in Christ, based on 1 Corinthians 16:13: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong” (NIV).
We are confident this theme will serve us well as we look at how Scripture encourages us to stand firm in the Lord and as we apply this truth to.......READ MORE
Meet Kristin Uher
The Lord led Kristin to accept a Call to be a dorm supervisor, teach geometry and consumer math along with supervising one study hall. She will be here for one year as she will finish her studies at MLC during the 23-24 school year.
Some of you might remember Kristin as she was born right here, in Watertown, SD, to Alan and Jennifer Uher. She is the youngest of three children. When she was still little, her family..........READ MORE
Opening Service and Installation
The Opening Service for the 2022-2023 school year was held on Sunday, August 21, at 2:30 p.m. in the GPLHS chapel/auditorium. The service included the installation of Karl Schauland and Kristin Uher and the guest preacher was former campus pastor, Tony Hansen, from Roscoe, SD. With this worship service, Great Plains Lutheran High School began its 27th year of serving students and families from our region and around the world. If you missed the live stream broadcast of the service you can find it by going to gplhs.org and clicking ‘Live Stream’ in the menu bar, then ‘Videos’ on the YouTube page.
Grandparents Day
Each fall we look forward to welcoming grandparents to campus; it has become one of the highlights of our year! Grandparents Day gives students the opportunity to connect with their grandparents, and gives grandparents a glimpse of life at GPL. We hope many grandparents will be able to participate. Grandparents Day is scheduled for Friday, September 23.
Fall Festival 2022 - Exciting News
Please join us for an afternoon of food, fellowship, and fundraising for Fine Arts and Student Assistance on Saturday, November 12 from 1:30 to 5:30pm. The theme for this year is Courageous in Christ – Near and Far. You can sign in and bid on items on your own smartphone or be assisted by our volunteer bid clerks. This means that EVERYONE can participate in Fall Festival, even if you are not able to join us in person. Please look for more details on how to participate in the near future.
Future Panther Passes
Annual event passes are available at no cost for all children through grade 8. Future Panther Passes can be obtained at the admission table when children attend their first GPLHS event. Remember to bring the pass to each GPL event attended to be punched. A prize will be earned at 8, 16 and 24 punches.
Activity Passes
Activity passes will once again be available for GPLHS events. You receive convenience and cost savings with the 20-event pass ($70) or the 10-event pass ($40). Stop in or ask to sign up for an activity pass when you attend your first event! In addition, this year each family with a student currently enrolled at GPL, will receive a 20-punch activity pass free of charge. If you did not pick up the pass on opening weekend please stop by the office for yours.
Facility Expansion
Thank you for the support that has made our new fine arts addition, kitchen, cafeteria and auxiliary gym possible!
The majority of the work has been completed. The main piece that remains is the installation and finishing of the auxiliary gym floor. This process should be completed by mid-September, making the auxiliary gym available a few weeks into the school year.
United in Praise
The current focus of our United in Praise campaign is on Finishing Touches, our effort to furnish and equip the auxiliary gym. This includes things like basketball and volleyball equipment, score table, team chairs, bleachers, and a basic sound system. To see how you can help us reach the goal of preparing this space for full utilization, go to  https://one.bidpal.net/finishingtouches/browse/donation
Wish List Item
The variety of musical instruments and supplies have been purchased. Thank you!! Our next project is to purchase a cart to store and make hymnals readily available for chapel and other worship services. $600 will purchase this cart. Designate your gift to "Wish List – Hymnal Cart" or call Angie at 605-886-0672.
Mission Advancement Update
I feel “Courageous in Christ” is a great theme for us to focus on as GPL works to help our students and families courageously live their faith. It is also an opportunity for us to courageously meet the challenges placed before us.
Right now we are blessed with a financial opportunity to show our courage in Christ. This gives us a chance to ask God to help us take this opportunity and meet it with the strength and courage that comes from our faith in Christ Jesus.
So far this fiscal year our budgeted need for gifted income is $81,000. We have been blessed to receive.........READ MORE
