GPLHS Monthly Update
November 2020
Prayer for Great Plains Lutheran High School
O Lord, in this month of Thanksgiving we offer you our sincere gratitude for all the blessings that come to your people through Great Plains Lutheran High School. Thank you for the faithfulness of faculty and staff, and for the dedication of students and families. Thank you for lessons learned, for the application of God’s Word to various subjects and situations, and for opportunities to engage in lives of service. Bless the work being done on new facilities, as well as the invitation to financially support this effort. May the ministry of GPLHS be another way your people strive to do all to the glory of God.
First Blood Drive of the Year
Each year the GPL Honor Society hosts two Red Cross Blood drives. The first one this school year is November 3 from 8:00am to 2:00pm. Due to COVID, donations can be by appointment only. You can schedule a time to donate blood by calling the office, 886-0672 or by signing up online:
Fall Activities Update
The GPL student body was well represented in the many fall activities that are offered here at school. The marching band and color guard were 46 strong as they performed in 3 competitions this fall. The oral interp team staged 20 participants with much success. 20 young women made up the JV and Varsity volleyball teams plus 2 managers for a total of 22 participants. The Panther cross country runners consisted of 16 boys and girls all total. Football rounded out the activities for the season fielding a team of 22 with 3 managers for a total of 25 participating. While some of these are students who participate in multiple activities, these numbers represent an active student body using their talents to God’s glory.
GPLHS 25th Anniversary
In October and November we celebrate the first 2 highlight events of our 25th anniversary year. It was a blessing to welcome back our alumni for homecoming and we are excited to launch our very first mobile bidding event at Fall Festival 2020. Join us in celebrating 25 years of ministry. Go to There you will find the highlight events for the year as well as our GPL25 video. Post your GPL memories on social media with #gpl25.
Fall Festival - Now's the time to Register!
Fall Festival will take place on Saturday, November 14 from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m. We hope you can join us in person or from the comfort of your own home through online bidding to show your support for our students through your participation and donations. The proceeds from Fall Festival are the main source of funding for the fine arts programs at GPLHS. Find out more at
Facility Expansion Update
During the month of October, footing and foundation work continued on our fine arts addition and began where our new kitchen and cafeteria will stand. Seeing the time and care that goes into laying these earthly foundations is a daily reminder of the importance of laying solid spiritual foundations. While the footings for our new facilities are impressive, they are not nearly as impressive as the grace of God that makes this project and everything that supports our mission worth doing.
Turkey Dash
GPLHS is hosting the Annual Turkey DASH 5K/Walk in conjunction with the Watertown police department. This event will take place on Thanksgiving Day. The deadline to register and receive a t-shirt is November 10. Registration and more detailed information can be found HERE. Or register online at Please note: Due to COVID, you will not be able to register the day of the event.
New Wish List Item
Room 132 is ready for an updated magnetic white board. This equipment is used on a daily basis and is a vital tool for educating and communicating. Your gifts of $300 will cover the cost of this upgrade for the English, health and religion classes that meet in this classroom. You can donate by clicking HERE and designating your gift to “Wish List: White Board” or by calling the office and asking for Liz – 605-886-0672.
I Can't Help but Give You Thanks!
Have you ever driven east in the early morning? I did recently. My first reaction was, “I sure wish the sun was higher in the sky; it’s right in my eyes!” But then I felt the warmth of the sun come through the windshield on that chilly fall day. I also saw the vast beauty of the Great Plains in which we live. All I could say was, “I can’t help but give you thanks, Lord, for your wisdom and grace!”

Then there’s Jesus who died at the hands of....
