From Evelyn and the Team at Ackah Business Immigration Law

Every immigration journey looks different.

Some people begin as international students. Others discover they may already have a claim to Canadian citizenship through their family history. And many are somewhere in between, waiting for permanent residence and wondering what comes next.

This month, we're sharing three reminders that the path to Canada isn't always what people expect, but with the right strategy, it can lead somewhere extraordinary.

From Student to Canadian Citizen

One of the greatest privileges of our work is seeing clients reach milestones they've worked toward for years.

Recently, we celebrated a client who first came to Canada as an international student. Over time, we helped him navigate his work permit, LMIA, permanent residence and now Canadian citizenship.

His journey wasn't quick or easy. It took patience, planning and the right decisions at every stage.

Today, he's preparing to receive his first Canadian passport.

Stories like his remind us that immigration is about far more than paperwork. It's about helping people build lives, careers and futures in Canada.

Understanding Canada's TR to PR Update

There has been a great deal of confusion surrounding Canada's latest TR to PR announcement.

The most important thing to know is that this is not a new program you can apply for.

Instead, IRCC is accelerating permanent residence applications that are already in its system.

If your application is already in progress, now is the time to make sure your file is complete, accurate and ready for review.

If you haven't applied yet, don't lose hope. There are still strong permanent residence pathways available, but your strategy may look different.

You May Already Be a Canadian Citizen

One of the biggest citizenship changes in years came quietly.

Bill C-3 expanded Canada's citizenship by descent rules, meaning some people who were previously told they did not qualify may now already be Canadian citizens.

If you have Canadian parents, grandparents or deeper family roots in Canada, it may be worth taking another look.

The key is proving your family history through the right records before applying for proof of citizenship and, eventually, a Canadian passport.

If there is a Canadian connection in your family history, now is the time to look at the records carefully and understand what that connection could mean for you.
