CONNECT WITH PACIFICA

Connecting With Pacifica banner - sun setting reflection on ocean scene

Greetings!

As we move further into spring, there’s a lot happening across Pacifica, from celebrating continued environmental stewardship to fun, family-friendly events and opportunities to get involved in the community.

We’re proud to share that the City has once again been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, marking seven consecutive years of commitment to maintaining and growing our urban forest. This milestone reflects the ongoing partnership between City staff, local organizations, and residents who help keep Pacifica green and thriving.

Don’t miss the upcoming Second Saturday Egg Hunt, happening tomorrow from 10-5pm. This is a free and festive event in Downtown Pacifica and Eureka Square where families can explore, find hidden eggs, and redeem prizes at local businesses the same day. More information below.

The City is currently recruiting for openings on key committees and commissions, offering a great opportunity to get involved and make a meaningful impact.

Thank you for staying connected with Pacifica.

Sincerely,

Yulia Carter

Interim City Manager

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Pacifica Re-Certified as a Tree City USA for Seventh Consecutive Year

The City of Pacifica’s Public Works Department, in partnership with the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department and Tree City Pacifica, recently completed its annual application to the Arbor Day Foundation for Tree City USA certification. We are pleased to report that the City has once again been approved for this designation. This marks the seventh consecutive year Pacifica has received Tree City USA recognition.

Tree City USA certification requires communities to meet specific standards related to tree planting, community forestry investment, and public engagement, including hosting an annual Arbor Day event and proclamation. Pacifica staff are proud to continue working alongside the local Tree City USA group to meet these commitments and support the City’s urban forest.

The Arbor Day Foundation shared the following message upon approval:

“Congratulations! Your Tree City USA application has been officially approved by the Arbor Day Foundation.”

“The 2025 recognition season marks 50 years of the Tree City USA program, and we couldn't be prouder to recognize your community forestry efforts. Take a moment to celebrate all the work you’ve accomplished. Your commitment to creating a greener, healthier community is a significant achievement, and we’re proud to have you as part of the Tree City USA program.”

SFO Runway Work & Temporary Increase in Flights Over Pacifica

Due to runway repaving at San Francisco International Airport, residents in northern Pacifica may notice a temporary increase in air traffic overhead. From March 29 through October 2, flight volume is expected to rise by approximately 30% in this area.

In addition, newly implemented Federal Aviation Administration runway limitations for parallel landings may lead to increased delays and, at times, more late-night departures.

Residents who wish to report aircraft noise can should use the online reporting tool and mobile app available at stop.jetnoise.net for a quick and easy option.

Protecting Pacifica’s Future: Community Forum on Coastal Resilience

Join the Pacifica Land Trust on Saturday, May 2 from 10 AM – 1 PM at the Pacifica Community Center for an interactive community forum focused on shaping a Climate Resiliency Plan for Pacifica’s coastal zone.

As our coastline faces growing challenges from sea level rise, erosion, storms, and extreme rainfall, this is an opportunity for residents to learn about nature-based solutions—like wetlands, dunes, and reefs—and help identify priority areas and project ideas. Attendees will hear a brief presentation and take part in a community discussion to share local knowledge and perspectives.

Your input will directly help guide future solutions and investments to protect Pacifica’s neighborhoods, infrastructure, and natural resources. Registration is required.

Share Your Input on the Future of Transit in San Mateo County

SamTrans is exploring a potential regional transit measure that could appear on the November ballot. If approved, it would provide approximately $50 million annually for 14 years to support public transportation improvements throughout San Mateo County.

Community input is an important part of this process. Residents, commuters, and local stakeholders are encouraged to share their priorities on how these funds should be invested—whether that’s improving service frequency, enhancing reliability, upgrading infrastructure, or expanding transit options.

Take a few minutes to complete the survey and help shape the future of transit in our region:

Survey closes April 30th.

U.S. 101 Nighttime Lane Closures Scheduled
